      The backstory

The first time playing poker was at the age of ten when my childhood friend hosted a home cash game of 5-card draw. We played micro-stakes no-limit 5-card draw and Texas hold ’em. In the beginning, we played full-ring cash games with up to nine or ten players from the neighborhood but only a select few stood pat and did not leave after having lost a buy-in, two or three. However, the poker phenomenon died out and we ended up playing short-handed cash games with a tight-knit group of friends until two of us started dominating and others refused to play. I did not play poker for years until ninth grade. I started playing a great deal of live poker — cash games and or sit-and-go tournaments in friends’ homes and or billiard halls. The billiard halls exposed me to sports betting. I had not played online poker until ’13. My childhood friend used the identity of his older brother to register on PokerStars. We shared the account and made deposits. Since then I have played poker as a hobby. I have played short-handed micro-stakes no limit Texas hold ’em cash games online, short-handed and full-ring micro- and low stakes no limit Texas hold ’em cash games, sit-and-gos and tournaments live and sports bet online and live. I am a break-even player with my five-figure sample online but I am a winning player in live cash games and sit-and-gos. In February ’14, I played the first major live tournament of my life. A €20 buy-in side-event of the GamingHill.com poker tournaments in Olympic Voodoo Casino at Radisson Blu Hotel Latvija. I did not cash but I survived until the first level of play after the first break. I found pocket aces in an early position and open-raised to 3bb, the action folded to the chip leader of the table in a late position who cold-called. A loose-aggressive player from the blinds 3-bet and I 4-bet all-in with my pocket aces. The tight-aggressive reshoved after half a minute of thinking and the loose-aggressive from the blinds snap-called. My pocket aces were in a very good shape against the ace-jack of the tight-aggressive and the pocket kings of the loose-aggressive to triple up and take the chip lead of the table. However, the jack-jack-x flop left me with one out and the turn nor the river helped me. In early ’14, I withdrew my money from PokerStars, registered on 888poker, made a deposit of $40 and bought the small stakes hold ’em version of PT4 for $59,99, and the Silver status on PokerStrategy for $9 on June 1.

A poker game in a pub, spring 2013.

      Hey Stee,

      Welcome to the blogs. :)

Ahhh memories. You sounded so much like me as a kid. I was always winning money of my friends. Whether it was playing darts, 8-ball, chess, backgammon, euchre or poker, I was always winning until my friends wouldn't play anymore. :(

Looking forward to following an interesting journey.

      Happy Fishing

      Thank you, Laz.

My expectation for today was to wake up early in the morning and start grinding but I woke up at c. 11:15 and sat down at the tables at c. 12:00. I 4-tabled for an hour, playing 335 hands. A break-even session, +$0,10 e’en though I ran $1,50 under EV. I will do a review and return to the tables for another hour session in the afternoon. My plan is to play at least a thousand hands today, do session reviews and watch the “Learning to learn“ video series by Schnitzelfisch. I will post hands in the hand evaluation forum and in this blog. Constructive criticism is very welcome.

I played a thousand hands today and lost a buy-in. The first two sessions were more or less break-even, I won $0,10 w/ the first and lost $0,15 w/ the second session. The third session was longer than the first two sessions but very swingy e’en though the tables were better. I was up two and a half buy-ins, then down two buy-ins, then up one and a half buy-in and then down a buy-in after hitting the thousand hand milestone. I posted the biggest -$ pots and hard decisions in to the hand evaluation forum but here is a hand against a fish. I thought I’ll bet all-in on the flop but the pot seemed too small, hence I shoved on the turn and bada bing, bada boom. The fish shows T2s. Fuhgeddaboudit.

The $ won w/o sd is a problem for me. I lost c. $4,60 non sd. I think I am playing too passively but I will analyse hand history and try to detect and correct the error.

Sat 12 Jul I’ll go on to a 2-week road trip in Western-Southern Europe w/ my father. The start and finish are in Dublin but the plan is to visit either Spain or Italy and the countries on the road. There is a chance I move to Ireland for an unknown time after the trip but I’ll definitely continue playing poker.

I put the plan I had yesterday into practice and woke up at c. 8:00 today only to find little to no action at the tables. I decided to 1-table and focus on quality over quantity. I played for more than an hour, playing c. one hundred hands and profited c. one and a half buy-in. I’ll review the session and the hands kymupa evaluated yesterday. Additionally, the “Learning to learn“ video series by Schnitzelfisch was very good. I have never studied poker on a theoretical level and the videos opened my eyes.

The third hand of the session vs a fish.

I have 1-tabled three one hour sessions today and my $ won w/o sd is more or less break-even, my wsd of the first two sessions was godlike. The third session turned the tables and brought me down to Earth. I couldn’t win a single sd.

The villain was 83/0, calling 2/3-barrels w/ 2nd/3rd pair - no draw but has got top range against me.

To be frank I thought villain minraised, not limp-minraised, and in my experience, minraises in micro-stakes cash games are weak. Thank you for your input, though.

The $0,01/$0,02 NLHE SH tables have got a maximum buy-in of $1 (50bb). I’ll start playing 100bb deep in the next limit (NL4).

      Anyway, my bankroll is $43,75.

The graph of my first one-hour Snap poker session. I 1-tabled and played 275 hands in an hour. I used to 4-table and play an average of 325 hands per hour. However, I am more focused, disciplined and I have got more time to think through my decisions.

The biggest hand of the session:

My plan is to play > 1000 hands a day and review the sessions. I’ll work through the notes of “Learning to learn“ video series by Schnitzelfisch and develop an action plan for the study of poker.

I’ll take the next two weekends off — visit my grandparents and attend my Freshman year reunion.

I have not played online poker for a week but I have played live poker and sports bet. I made three-figure profits betting on the French Open and playing up to /$.25c home cash games. Other than that I have done nothing productive all week.

The Freshman year reunion was cancelled but I decided to trip to the summer capital for a few days. Summertime and World Cup 2014.

I’ll go back to previous activity next week and update the blog.

The St John’s Day celebrations are in full swing and e’en though the initial plan was to attend Pühajärve Jaanituli 2014, I decided not to because of bad weather.

I’ll spend quality time with my family for most of the Midsummer but mix in playing poker too. However, I’ve scheduled a select few events prior to 12 Jul not to miss the whole early summer festivities in Estonia.

BB bets 26 BB, Hero ?

My thought process: the effective stacks are 170 bb - we are very deep. I do not want to give villain pot- and or implied odds w/ monster draws. The ideal scenario would be to get the money in to the pot on the flop w/ the nuts. SB bets 1 bb, BB raises to 6 bb, the pot is 16 bb and I raise to 21 bb. Std. SB folds and BB calls. BB’s range is A2s+, Kxs, Qxs, Jxs, 22, 44, 99-TT and 8x (suited-, offsuit connectors, gappers). E’en though JJ+ and AKs should be in BB’s 3-bet range, I cannot exclude them. The raise-call on the flop is suspicious. 1) the raise tells me BB wants to protect its hand (22, 44, 99+, 8x), 2) the call tells me BB does not want to build the pot and or wants to draw (A2s+, Kxs, Qxs, Jxs and 8x). The turn completes the flush draw. BB checks. 1) the villain does not want to scare us off after hitting (A2s+, Kxs, Qxs, Jxs) and or induces a bluff, 2) the villain is scared of the flush (22, 44, 99+, 8x) and does not want to build the pot. I do not want to turn my hand into a bluff and I check behind. The river is a ten and the BB bets 1/2p. If villain 1) slow played their flush, then why bet 1/2p, not 2/3p+?, 2) makes a blocking bet w/ a hand other than nuts. I do not think villain bluffs according to their line and bet sizing on the river. We do not beat A2s+, Kxs, Qxs, Jxs and 99-TT. We beat 22, 44, JJ+, two pair hands (89, 8T). I think we cannot turn our hand into a bluff and raise because of the line we took. The raise on the flop and check behind on the turn do not represent flush. What line would you take? Would you call or fold on the river?

You are showing lots of hardwork and good play. Nice to see that in a young man.

All the hands you are mostly winning but this spot is insteresting and hard.

Do you have River Agg Factor, is very usefull in these spot.
I dont think you play bad, you could have bet smallish on turn to get more info about his hand strength but it could turn bad if vilain is in C/R mode.
His line looks like a flush draw that got there on turn and wants to get paid, maybe he doesn't think you have a strong hand to pay that much or just wants to give you room to Bluff.
      I would fold but i'm just a :f_p:
      take care and GL

that's pretty tough. he's probably not bluffing, so which worse hands can he bet for value?
i don't wanna fold but i can't find enough worse value hands so folding is probably good :f_biggrin:

The first session of the day was godlike. 330 hands, 142.88 bb/100 and +$9.43. Isn’t it amazing?

      The (biggest) hands:

I didn’t do the session review, thus no hands. I’ll eat lunch, hit a billiard hall to shoot eight-ball, and return to the tables in the evening.
