What do you want in a video?

      Hey there guys,
I just typed up the length of an essay about this then firefox crashed as I tried to post this SIGH!

Anyways I just recently finished my last exam so will be able to focus more on poker for the next few months and I can fulfill my responsibilities making videos again!
I've been inspired by deuces-cracked and want to give their "series" style of videos a shot. Basically there are several episodes that are on a similar topic in their videos as opposed to our unconnected, standalone ones on pokerstrategy.com
I've been thinking up some ideas lately and I thought the best place to start was a series aimed at beginners. Here's some idea of how it would go.

Episode 1 : In the Beginning

Cover what to do and not do with starting capital, correct BRM before they even open up a table. Guide to joining tables & posting blinds in the correct position, some really rudimentary table selection & implementing the SHC into every preflop decision.

      Episode 2-X: XXXXXX

The rest would incorporate some bronze articles then silver & finally gold covering stuff like odds & outs, classifying opponents, more advanced heads up lines & maybe balancing basically building a solid overall foundation for 50c/1$ FR which is the jump pad to SH (in partypoker).

Other things could include coaching a new player who asks a lot of questions which would be relevant to every new FL player and getting him to play live while I watch or something similar (yeah, I know it's pretty much a ripoff of dc).

After the first series aimed at beginner/FR there could be an introduction to SH series, and if I can play up to 3-6/5-10 by the end of my holiday I could be confident enough in my game to do a more advanced SH one and perhaps collaborate with another fellow FL player to give more angles to the discussion.

I just want to know if you, as beginners would want to see this kind of video series, and want to get some more ideas from you.

      1. What do you like/dislike about what I've said above.

      2. Any ideas you want to throw in there?

I'm looking for any and all feedback, so don't hesitate to reply (or skype me)!

It sounds great for me. I like the idea about "video serial". It would be much better than solo video.

In fact I like all You mentioned here :D

Come on man. Be serious. The guy is offering something new to PokerStrategy and All you have to say is porn?

      Anyway. For the topic:

I think it's a really good idea and I would definitly watch those videos. I only played about 7-8k hands of FL so far, so I think I could be described as beginner. :)

I think my preflop-play is more or less as it should be. So topics I would like are topics like tableselections (which I'm trying out atm), odds and outs, postflop play, adjusting to opponents. That's what I can think of, off the top of my head. I'll get back with more later.

      What's your skype btw?

      Cheers,
      Kimber88

Porn would get lots of views, so I agree!

Perhaps you can talk a lot about different opponents on the limits from 0.5/1-3/6 or something.

I don't really like a massive amount of 'series' vids on the beginners part. After all, for that level abc-poker is all it takes, so I don't see much use for a 5+ vid series.

      Topics I would think of
      - recognizing situation and doing the appropriate actions
      - using a hud and adjusting play to their ranges
      - in depth video (pauzing video on every interesting hand, talking about possible action and why you should or shouldn't do them)
      - random PS-beginner makes a video, you give comment afterwards.

The beginner series would just be the first & only one for beginners, but the first couple of episodes would be for COMPLETE beginners and a kind of "watch this first" kind of thing so they are fully equipped to take on the tables and I'd try and eliminate rookie mistakes before they even start playing and it'd also be something for them to refer back to if they remembered me talking about a specific topic.

Basically it would probably be 4-5 episodes with only the first 1-2 being super beginner stuff, then the others early bronze theory leading up to silver or something. So it isn't like 47 videos for the beginner to watch but just 1 or 2 max to prepare them for pwning the micro limits.

Thanks so much for your feedback g1lius :D

Really nice idea Terrorblade... and I trust the exams went well :)

Videos that mirror and support the articles. Post flop articles like playing overcards on the flop, evaluating draws, estimating hand equity would all benefit from some good video examples and analysis IMO.

Maybe it is possible to use a background image with an at least half naked female.

I would like to see in the vidoes how after identifying the oppenents playing style you change your own play to fit theirs, basically saying when and why your playing a different approach to the normal line in both pre and postflop situations.

Another suggestion would be to make 2 vids for each limit, one of you playing and a review of another player who regularily playes that limit so you can see how to and how not to play.

Hey dude, not sure whether this thread is still going and if you're still making vids, so yeah, include or disregard the following....:
I think u mentioned it in one of your earlier videos, but i'm not sure if you got round to including it yet, so i'd suggest a bit about how and when to play second pair. That's where i'm personally still a bit unsure. Dunno about you guys.....
Definetly a nice idea tho, cheers

I'm looking forward to a 'going through the levels series like this'!

Woud be nice to emphasize on the differences between the levels and the adjustment you'll have to make.
But I recon you already thought about this :D

Maybe this would be nice too:
If somewhere in between you'd make a special video that's about spotting leaks using software like Holdem Manager or Elephant (don't know what elephant is capable of). After you've played enough hands to analyse your play. So you can explain ways to find out in which situations you're loosing to much money and why. Don't know if this works, cause of course you need to have leaks :) . But just an idea..

      Anyway, you got my vote!

[10/19/2008 8:20:10 PM] Alex Benner says: I have some interesting ideas for videos, for example if you're familiar with deucescracked.com how they have "series" of videos I was thinking about making some series for beginners focussing on the key concepts to be a winning player at lower limits etc. I think it should be quite fun and effective ;)
[10/19/2008 8:20:20 PM] Alex Benner says: Anyways just wanted to say hi, ttyl!

      No to Tribun.

      Yes to porn.

I like everyones ideas! I don't have/know how to use Holdem Manager though(could learn though)!

I'm going to start making them soon, you'll see several of them before christmas, it's just right now I might be able to make that 750$ PS bonus thing (expires end of november), if so I need to focus on that, if not I can start making the vids.
