Hello fellow strategists! I've been playing poker on and off for 8 years now, wow it's been that long :s_love: but I started actually learning about the game about 2 years ago, I haven't had any notable results since I haven't been taking it seriously so far but I'm hoping to change all that.

I've been wanting to start my own blog in a long time but I've always found reasons (excuses) to put it off. I'm starting this blog with the intent to discipline and motivate myself to take my poker career seriously, to set goals and chase them and most importantly not to give up the chase.

I will update as regularly as time allows me to and will post graphs, thoughts, questions (a lot of them) and everything else poker related. Anyone with suggestions, ideas, etc. is encouraged to post them.

      Goals:

      Short term:

 Move to NL5 at 40 BI in 2 weeks (currently at 31, I'm a bit of a nit with BRM)
 Move to NL10 with 40 BI in 5-6 weeks

I'm not going to post mid and long term goals because I don't see the point in them right now, I just want to chase these 2 goals right now and if everything works out well, I'll set new ones and so forth.

Here is my first graph and my biggest winning session so far at NL2 without which I probably still wouldn't have started this blog:

Here is the graph with all my hands at NL2 so far:

Starting from tomorrow I will start studying all the bronze articles and watch as much videos as time allows me too, I will also try to reach 2k hands/day. It's doable so time to work hard and get results! :s_thumbsup:

      Hey joey1toe,

      Welcome to the blogs. :)

Nice graphs. I do like the session one. almost 100BBs/100 hands. I could live with that. :f_biggrin:

Good luck and hope to hear of your move to NL5 real soon.

      Have fun

Hey Lazza61 thanks for the :s_thumbsup: I like the almost 100BB/100 hands graph as well shame they only come around once in a while :p (in a long while in my case :f_biggrin: ) good luck with your poker carreer as well hope you achieve all your poker and life goals!

      Today's review:

      Played 1518 hands, winnings: 2.44 BR: 159.03

I started studying articles all the way from the poker basics especially outs, odds, pot odds, implied odds, reversed implied odds, position and playability, I think I understood them for the most part but I'm definitely going to do some exercises with odds, pot odds and implied odds in equilab or on a piece of paper :D

Tomorrow I'm planning to get a good understanding of the previously mentioned topics and start watching videos as well + hoping to reach 2k hands a day as promised. That's about it for today, good luck at the tables!

Forgot to post hands yesterday so here we go:

Should I squeeze this hand from SB? BTN is unknown but by his stack he's fishy, I miss on the flop so I guess x/f is the best option here with no info?

Villain unknown, raised him on the flop to rep a set, x turn cuz I thought he made his flush but when he checked back and on that river I guess he was afraid of a flush himself I'm thinking I could bet pot size or 2/3 pot to take it down on the river. Thoughts?

When I get raised on the flop I can't fold this given villain's unknown right? or maybe because he's unknown I should fold it? ... I called to see what turn brings where it completes his draws, but it didn't and I made a 1/2 pot bet but now I think it should be like ~50 c ? on the river perhaps thin value? ~40 c?

Hello Fran, thanks, nice to have you and Laz along :s_thumbsup: I hope they'll get better and better, yours as well, what do you guys play? I'll try to update whenever possible, speaking of which...

      Today's review:

Played 2k hands as yesterday was up 4 BI's in the first session, and lost it pretty much as soon as I made it got a few bad beats and I topped it with a few spews to make a nice cocktail :f_mad: ... actually I noticed this happens to me quite often whenever I get 2 or more bad beats in a row I go on tilt and start spewing a stack or two until I get my head straight again (note to self: when feeling tilty just stop playing!).

I've been playing for a few days now without HM2 and I can say I miss it even at the lowest of the low stake I need my vpip/pfr! I can play without it actually the first graph I posted of the 9 BI day was w/o HUD but I just need it, it makes my decision making process a lot easier!

      Winnings: 0.99 $ :f_biggrin:
      BR: 164.35 $

That's it for today, unfortunately I simply haven't had the time to study or watch videos today and since that's paramount to improve I'll make plenty of time in the next days for it so I'll have to get up earlier in the morning :f_cry: but as the saying goes "no pain, no gain" right?

      Hey joey1toe,

I like a bit of everything. I generally play MTSngs, in particular 45 manners on Stars (still stuck at $1.50s X( ) and the On Tap SnGs on iPoker which play like 45-90 manners. I also like to play Omaha Hi/Lo MTTs, STTs, and cash. I love Stud games so I also like to play HORSE and 8 game MTTs.

      Cheers

Awesome Laz you play everything! :s_thumbsup: I wish I had the patience to learn other formats of poker as well but Hold'em is plenty for me right now, oh I used to play some 5-card draw a few years ago loved the format but never played for real money just fun/play money, might give it a try again sooner or later.

I see that my previously posted hands haven't drawn any attention so I'm only gonna post interesting/funny hands on the blog from now on and leave the ones that need reviewing for the hand evaluation section. Here are a few hands from yesterday's session:

      Poker Stars $0.01/$0.02 No Limit Hold'em - 6 players - View hand 2555465

      Flop: ($0.18) 7 :club: T :club: J :club: (3 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets $0.18, SB raises to $4.98 all in, BB folds, Hero folds

When he shoved given that it's 3-way and opponent is unknown I was convinced he made his flush but now that I think about it if he had the flush he would of made a standard min/3x raise unless he had a weaker flush or the nut flush draw which would expain the shove thus I really think he flopped a set and moved all in to protect his hand. Thoughts?

      1) call
      2) raise, too many action killers
      3) this one is pretty tough, i'd use literally any stat to try to guess out anything about his tendencies :f_biggrin: with pot flop/turn he pretty much reps 99 22 A9 A2, but otr there's less 99 and A2 is counterfeited, and it's hard to flop the nuts etc
      4) cbet small (just to make him fold most things non-spades) and as played yeah river is a fold

Hi Tomaloc, thanks for your input, appreciate it. :s_thumbsup:

I didn't update yesterday because I spent my day with my girlfriend I did get to read some articles and get a deeper understanding of the basic math of poker, I also started watching a NL 10 live play video by w34z3l but didn't finish it.

Today was the day I hit my first real downswing in poker, the bad beats and suckouts were unreal today coupled with some bad play from my part :f_cry:

      Hands: 1635
      Winnings: -18.46 $
      BR: 145.85 $

I'll leave some hands for you guys to help me determine whether they were due to a bad run or to my bad play, all villains are unknown since my HUD hasn't been working for a week now.

I have more hands but 10 are enough don't wanna spam too much than I already have, after I reviewed my hands I calculated that 10.51 $ is because of my own bad play  and the rest of 7.95 because of variance.

That's it for today, good luck at the tables everyone!

Hello folks :) I've been kinda busy these past days with wedding preparations so I haven't played or studied that much pokerwise. I started watching w34z3l's 6-max walkthrough micro series which is awesome! and some videos from BogdanPS on volume and variance (which really opened up my eyes and I recommend everyone to watch it, that video should be mandatory for every poker player!) and some session reviews.

I also played 2 HU 1.5$ hyper sng's this morning to finish the pokerstars daily challenge and much to my surprised I won both of them :f_love:

      Today's review:

      Hands played: 501
      Winnings: 7.69 $
      BR: 155.77 $

Tomorrow I'll post some interesting and funny hands from today's and yesterday's session, also I hope I'll play 2k hands tomorrow because I have a wedding to attend to on saturday and sunday I'll recover from saturday' wedding party and monday from sunday's after wedding party, needless to say I'll be partying for a few days :s_love: ... and then from monday to thursday or friday I'll take a small vacation to the danube delta :s_love: :s_love: :s_love: for some well deserved relaxation :s_cool:

I probably will miss my first goal but it can't be helped I'm afraid :f_cry: but I promise to work harder after I return from my vacation. That's it for now, have fun and good luck at the tables everyone!

#TT, that would be a crying fold if you were actually paying attention! :f_mad:
Oh, the flop raise needs to be much bigger as well. Get value when you have the best of it and fold when you don't. :)

I could put the villain on a K there as you most likely did. Had you thought about overbet turn? Just an idea.

#QQ, I'd just ship it prelop. If I reraise the stack to pot ratio is going to be so small I may as well push now.

#JJ, no slowplay here, get the money going in as fast as possible. What you going to think if a T/K/A or diamond come on turn, still going broke then? Tough one huh, so just bet if they fold they had nothing there anyway, no problem.

#JJ again, remember this hand we'll be back!

#AcKc - and we're back! Just a quick wtf for this one. You have a gutshot, I wouldn't even call that small flop bet. Remember what you thought of the other villain who showed AK? That's what you looked like to this one!. :D

Now you must realise by now I'm a fish, so take my suggestions with chips and vinegar.

Take care and have a great time at the wedding and on the Danube trip!

      Mal.

Hey gadget thanks for your insight and for stopping by on my little blog :s_thumbsup: on #AcKc hand I remember I was tilty because of a previous hand that I lost to a suckout :f_frown: so that's why I spewed it away normally there's no way I would go broke there :D

On #TT great idea with the overbet on turn! what sizing do you recommend?

On the #QQ I wanted MP to call because I knew his range was weak, if I shoved he would have most likely folded.

I agree with you on the #JJ definitely shouldn't slowplay that :D

I think your suggestions are great, keep them coming! :s_cool: the more people participate in hand discussions the better for all of us since we can exchange information/knowledge/ideas and thus become better players :s_thumbsup:

Thanks, I'll sure have a lot of fun at the wedding which is literally starting in 1/2 an hour so I have to hurry up and catch a taxi :D

      Have a great weekend everyone!

I'm back! I cancelled my danube delta trip because long story short I ran out of money :D

Back to poker today ends my first goal which was to move to NL5 at 40 BI which I sort of missed and accomplished at the same time. I'm saying that because I decided 34 BI (170$) should be enough to move and I'm glad I did that because it turned out to be quite a profitable day at NL5.

      Hands: 1007
      Winnings: 19.63 $
      Bankroll: 189.71 $

Next goal is moving to NL 10 in 5-6 weeks that's on the 17 or 24th of september.

Thoughts so far on NL5 as this is my 2nd shot, I feel like the field isn't much better than NL2, more or less the same just playing for more money which suits me just fine :s_cool:

      Here's a graph on NL5 so far:

And my total graph at NL2 (hopefully I'll never climb down there again) :

That's it for today, I'll leave you guys with some hands from today's session. Take care and good luck and skill at the tables :s_biggrin:

On this board when a fishy guy like this 3bets 3x and only makes a half pot bet otf that shows me weakness so I clicked it back to him then again he clicks it back to me and some alarm bells start going off but on that board he's not repping much maybe AJ a set or overpairs QQ KK AA but highly unlikely so I decide to call.

OTT when he checks it's like saying "Damn my FD didn't complete :f_cry: " and I see no other option but to put the money in. Thoughts?

Villain is 50/50 over 2 hands thus pretty much unknown but with that stack and because he limped from UTG I would say he's fishy. Preflop I should have 3bet with AJ there no idea why I limped, otf given his small bet I wanted to rep the Q so I raised him, ott&r I continued my aggression given that the only cards that could beat us were a set, A4 AQ AK or Qx but the way he played the hand lead me to believe he was chasing a FD. Thoughts on the hand?

Hello whoever's watching! :D it's been a while since the last update I've been playing nl5 and getting pretty rolled at it :s_cry: I'm not busto just yet though so I'm gonna keep on grinding and studying! here's a graph on NL5 so far:

So my new goal is to get out of the - and into the + and be a winning player by at least 8bb/100 at this limit. Tomorrow I'll post some hands that almost made me throw my monitor out the window, cash out and kiss poker goodbye, those kind of fun and joyful hands :s_love: ... so that's it for today, have a good one folks!

Ohhh! finally I managed to find my blog! :D haven't updated in ages, but that's because there isn't much to update really, still struggling with NL5 not even breakeven after 20k hands still losing :s_cry: I haven't studied much either as well, actually I haven't studied at all lately :s_frown: ... but all that's gonna change! (hopefully  )

Now that I'm a goldfish I have more access which = more videos & articles which in turn = more moniez!

On a more serious note, I will study and hopefully grind my way from the hole I currently find myself in, I think my biggest leak is from a mental point of view not so much from a technical one although I definitely have some technical ones as well, so as I mentioned earlier my current goal is to be a winning reg at nl5 by at least 5bb/100 hopefully 10bb or more...

20k hands on nl5 so far:

In the meantime: http://www.boomplayer.com/en/poker-hands/Boom/10699316_3CF20C04DF ... fun times at pokerstars :D
