I don't think a high IQ is a necessity -- it might even be a problem.
Some skill are necessary, though.
Like MichFran said, some basic math will be very helpful.
Memory is good too -- remembering how others have played against you and so on.
There is also knowledge to be acquired -- the positions at the table for example, and the standard opening ranges that go with them.
Other skills like self-discipline are also very helpful.
