Ok, this might be a long post so please bear with me :)

The idea of this post is to come up with some guideline hands for me to use as a base, and then adapt based off of table dynamic.

I've been doing some math on opening ranges for 6max based off of an 'average' call rate for villains behind and come up with a few ranges that I'd like to discuss. Feel free to tear them apart if you think that way, but please give reasoning.

The only assumptions made in the math is on the % villains will call. Obviously some villains will call a higher%, some a lower%, so I've tried to find a reasonable figure to use as an average.

      UTG

Assumed call% for each villain: 20%

      All fold: 32.77%
      1 Caller: 40.96%
      2 Callers: 20.48%
      3 Callers: 5.12%
      4 Callers: 0.64%
      5 Callers: 0.032%

If we open 8% range of hands then our % chance of either stealing blinds or having best hand at flop is ~67.55%. This means we can raise 3xBB from UTG with an 8% range.

      MID

      Assumed Villain call range: 20%

      All fold: 40.96%
      1 Caller: 40.96%
      2 Callers: 15.36%
      3 Callers: 2.56%
      4 Callers: 0.16%

Here we can open 20% range and have a % chance of either stealing blinds or going to flop with the best hand of ~67.23%. So our 3xBB raise from Mid position range is 20%.

      CUTOFF

      Assumed Villain Call Range: 25%

      All fold: 42.19%
      1 Caller: 42.19%
      2 Callers: 14.06%
      3 Callers: 1.56%

Here we can open 30% range and have a % chance of either stealing blinds or going to flop with the best hand of ~67.3%. So our 3xBB raise from Cutoff position range is 30%.

      BUTTON

      Assumed Villain Call Rate: 35%

      All fold: 42.25%
      1 Caller: 45.5%
      2 Callers: 12.25%

Here we can open 50% range and have a % chance of either stealing blinds or going to flop with the best hand of ~67.27%. So our 3xBB raise from Button position range is 50%.

      SMALL BLIND

      Assumed Villain Call Rate: 50%

      BB folds: 50%
      BB Calls: 50%

Here we can open 100% range and have a % chance of either stealing blinds or going to flop with the best hand of ~71.15%. So our 3xBB raise from Small Blind position range is 100%.

If you want a more detailed insight of the math behind this post feel free to ask how I got what figure and I'll try and explain as best i can :)

      tl;dr

      UTG: 88+,ATs+,KTs+,QJs,AJo+
      Mid: 66+,A4s+,K8s+,Q9s+,J9s+,T9s,A9o+,KTo+,QTo+,JTo
      Cutoff: 55+,A2s+,K5s+,Q7s+,J8s+,T8s+,98s,A7o+,A5o,K9o+,Q9o+,J9o+,T9o
      Button: 33+,A2s+,K2s+,Q2s+,J4s+,T6s+,96s+,86s+,76s,65s,A2o+,K5o+,Q7o+,J7o+,T7o+,98o

I’m not in to cash games, but it looks weird to me that 22 isn’t a open on the button.
Also I newer open any 2 on the SB against a random player in BB.
The BB should be on the tight side will this be a profitable strategy.

I would check out the No Limit Beginners course with confidant91 thread for the 6 max ranges as well. I expect the ranges that confidant91 using is better on the long run.

      Cheers,
