Today I entered a satellite to a tournament later in the day.

After entering, I noticed the following:
This tournament leads to today's $750 guaranteed tournament..
Two seats guaranteed! Satellite winners may NOT unregister Good luck!
At the moment, there are enough players that there are 3 seats to be awarded, and 4th gets the leftovers in cash.

      The question is this:
Is it considered unethical to deliberately bust out in whatever spot gets the cash?

Assuming it is possible to do so, of course.

      Cheers,
      VS

      'Unethical"?
I tried to do this once, shoved a random hand, got a family pot and won
      :-(

      Hi, GoOnCal1
lol -- isn't that always the way?

In this case, it is not "chip dumping" because you have no agreement with anyone to actually dump the chips.

I thought of getting into 4th place, then just sit out, but you run the risk of someone busting out ahead of you.

I looked online to see if any poker rooms terms and conditions covered this, but could find nothing.

      Perhaps someone knows for sure,

Sometimes I would do this on those steps tournaments on FTP. I don't feel it is unethical or illegal. To an extent the problem lies with the site for creating a payout structure where some may feel 4th place is more valueable than first.

      Hi, w34z3l
Thanks for that. After I posted that I decided that as long as you play within the rules of the game, and within the T & C of the poker room, then choosing to bust out 4th is fine.

As it turns out, I made 4th with this hand:

      C$2000/C$4000 NL - Holdem - 4 players
      Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

      BTN: 42,100 (VPIP: 25.93, PFR: 1.85, 3Bet Preflop: 4.76, Hands: 55)
      Hero (SB): 25,320
      BB: 37,937 (VPIP: 43.55, PFR: 4.92, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 64)
      CO: 19,143 (VPIP: 30.77, PFR: 6.58, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 78)

4 players post ante of 400, Hero posts SB 2,000, BB posts BB 4,000

Pre Flop: (pot: 7,600) Hero has :8d: :8h:

fold, BTN calls 4,000, Hero raises to 8,000, fold, BTN calls 4,000

      Flop: (21,600, 2 players) :5c: :8s: :Tc:
      Hero checks, BTN checks

      Turn: (21,600, 2 players) :7s:
Hero bets 4,000, BTN calls 4,000

      River: (29,600, 2 players) :Ks:
Hero bets 12,920 and is all-in, BTN calls 12,920

BTN shows :Qs: :Js: (Flush, King High)
      (Pre 49%, Flop 17%, Turn 23%)
Hero shows :8d: :8h: (Three of a Kind, Eights)
      (Pre 51%, Flop 83%, Turn 77%)
      BTN wins 55,440

One of the weird times when you HOPE your opponent makes his flush :s_biggrin:

      Peace,

I was in a MPS Satelitte where the main payout were tickets to an $11 satellite. The leftover prize was $8.19. As a freeroller (this was a few years ago), the $8.19 cash was far more valuable than an $11 ticket to a satellite for a live event on the other side of the world.

As soon as the bubble burst, i chucked allin, managed to get called by a bigger stack, and busted with the cash. I then took $1.10 of it into a PLO MTT and finished 3/71 for another $10.

So karma must have thought it was fine
