Hello everyone and welcome to my (very first) blog! :welcome:

My name is Hesticus and I have been around quite long in poker, however never too serious until last summer. I have read a couple of books and during some books it was going well and others not so well. I have suffered quite a downscale in my bankroll (from $200 to $100) and I know it is just bad play and maybe even tilt. Somehow, I like this game so much I do not want to give up. I still enjoy playing it, every moment. Therefore, I want to explore my options. I will show in this blog my full thinking, emotions, proud, shame, excitement, sadness and any other perception or emotion you can think of!

I am starting next September with my Master degree and am working now in Thailand. I have quite some time left for blogging and playing more poker during this time. I will also do broadcasting in which I hope you like to follow me! Feel free to give a comment (how my game sucked again or what a hero call I made :) )

      My goals are the following:

      - Bankroll of $1,000 before 30th of June 2016
      - I want to be back to a $200 bankroll by the end of January
      - I want to play 5NL 6-handed after 40 BI ($150)
      - I want to have read the following poker books by the end of March:
      - Easy Game: Making Sense of No Limited Holdem, 3rd Edition
      - The mental game of Poker by Jared Tendler LLC, 2011
      - 1 other psychology and 1 book of mathematics, yet to find with the help of you guys!

As darkonebg has announced, I will post every Monday, starting from 4th of January. I also will message on other player's forum in addition on this forum where people might know me a bit already. I will use simply this hand converter to post my hands and will post not more than 3 hands per week for optimal analysis. I will post 2 times (mid of March and mid of June) a full analysis of my game with Holdem Manager to discuss where are my strengths and weaknesses.

This is it for now, I hope you all will enjoy it and also will support me as well as I hope to support you just as much as a return!

      Cheers,
      Hesticus :f_drink:

      Thanks SDK :welcome:

I definitely recommend you to visit Thailand one day, being a tourist here is awesome! So much to see, everything is cheap and almost everyone considers the food is one of the greatest.

Wish you too that all the best may come to you and thanks for your support!

      Cheers,
      Hesticus

Time will tell if I visit Thailand 1 day. It would be the first time to fly for me as well.

      Update week 1

In one of the previous blogs of someone I saw that people don't like long texts so I will try to keep it as short as possible.

I haven't played many hands last week since I was busy setting up my Twitch and arrange some other stuff.

      BR Week 0: $100
      BR Week 1: $103.08
      Others (S&G, MTT, etc.) $2
      Profit according HM2: $1.08

If I did this incorrectly, let me know.

I would like to address the following 2 hands:

      Hand 1
      Poker Stars $2.00 No Limit Hold'em - 5 players
DeucesCracked Poker Videos Hand History Converter

      BB: $0.69 - VPIP: 50, PFR: 28, 3B: 0, AF: 7.0, Hands: 32
      UTG: $0.57 - VPIP: 30, PFR: 10, 3B: 0, AF: 0.0, Hands: 10
      CO: $2.09 - VPIP: 13, PFR: 9, 3B: 0, AF: 1.0, Hands: 55
      BTN: $2.39 - VPIP: 28, PFR: 22, 3B: 11, AF: 0.7, Hands: 46
      Hero (SB): $4.13 - VPIP: 22, PFR: 17, 3B: 6, AF: 1.9, Hands: 1162

Pre Flop: ($0.03) Hero is SB with 9:diamond: A:diamond:
2 folds, BTN raises to $0.06, Hero calls $0.05, BB calls $0.04

      Flop: ($0.18) 8:spade: 4:diamond: 9:heart: (3 players)
Hero bets $0.12, BB folds, BTN calls $0.12

      Turn: ($0.42) 6:club: (2 players)
Hero bets $0.20, BTN calls $0.20

      River: ($0.82) Q:diamond: (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $0.38, Hero calls $0.38

      Final Pot: $1.58
      BTN shows 6h 4h
      Hero mucks 9d Ad
      BTN wins $1.52
      (Rake: $0.06)

Concerning his stats he could be opening with a wide range. Not going into too much details, my questions:
      1) Should I have 3-Bet him?
      2) Should I have not paid him off OTR?
He had some SD combos but the Q was actually a good card for me. Let me know guys and we can discuss further on this hand, I would be happy to :)

      Hand 2
      Poker Stars $2.00 No Limit Hold'em - 5 players
DeucesCracked Poker Videos Hand History Converter

      Hero (UTG): $3.60 - VPIP: 22, PFR: 17, 3B: 6, AF: 1.9, Hands: 1162

      BTN: $3.87 - VPIP: 33, PFR: 9, 3B: 3, AF: 1.4, Hands: 78
      SB: $0.70 - VPIP: 86, PFR: 29, 3B: 25, AF: 2.3, Hands: 21

Pre Flop: ($0.03) Hero is UTG with 8:club: A:club:
Hero raises to $0.06, 2 folds, SB raises to $0.10, 1 fold, Hero calls $0.04

      Flop: ($0.22) T:heart: A:spade: J:club: (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $0.15, SB calls $0.15

      Turn: ($0.52) K:heart: (2 players)
      SB checks, Hero checks

      River: ($0.52) T:diamond: (2 players)
SB bets $0.32, Hero calls $0.32

      Final Pot: $1.16
      Hero mucks 8c Ac
      SB shows Qh 4h
      SB wins $1.12
      (Rake: $0.04)

It was a complete fish and maybe I shouldn't worry too much about this hand.

Hope to hear some comments and I will be happy to dig more into these hands!

      Cheers! :f_drink:

OMG guys, yesterday I had a terrible evening! I started playing well but then a fish came at the table in which you would always say 'that is good news!'. However, I don't know what happened (actually, I think I do) but I was spewing chips and made such bad plays and was really really angry at myself.

I am quite ashamed of these hands but I post them anyway. I don't think it's necessarily a lack of skills, rather I think I have some kind of anxiety in which I just do not think anymore but just try to steal without asking myself 'why?'. In the second hand I clearly was on tilt and didn't think straight anymore.

I see 2 options to work on it:

      1) Get a (mental) coach
      2) Study the book Mental game of poker/read articles here on PS

Now, I don't have the money to get me a coach so I prefer to opt in for option 2.
      What do you think guys?

Hi all, update for last week's progress:

      BR Week 1: $103.08
      BR Week 2: $108.07
      Rakeback: $3.71 (according HM2)
      Net won: $2.48

Still quite confused since the numbers don't really add up, profit should be $4.99 if we compare last and current BR.

      2 Screenshots of my progress:

As you can see, the graph is not yet steady, which suggests some leaks in my play. Most probably the downswing in the graph has to do with the hands I posted earlier here (see message 07.01.2016).
I got in touch now with Vonki and sent a Skype ID. I hope we can have a small chat somewhere this week and see what we can do and where I need to work on. Thank you very much for trying to help me out Vonki! :f_thumbsup:

A small hand review (2 hands):

      Hand 1

      Poker Stars $2.00 No Limit Hold'em - 6 players
DeucesCracked Poker Videos Hand History Converter

      UTG: $2.14

      BB: $2.99 - VPIP: 52, PFR: 11, 3B: 0, AF: 1.3, Hands: 93

Pre Flop: ($0.03) Hero is SB with 6:club: 6:heart:

      Hero shows 6c 6h
      BB shows 5c Ac
      BB wins $3.99
      (Rake: $0.14)

      Questions:
      1) Should I have raised more OTF?
      2) Should I have taken initiative instead?
      3) Maybe something else I overlooked?

      Hand 2

      Poker Stars $2.00 No Limit Hold'em - 6 players

      BTN shows 7h 6h
      Hero shows 7s 8s
      BTN wins $3.94
      (Rake: $0.14)

      Questions:
      1) Was this even a good line (both pre and postflop)? I may have 3Bet this one
      2) Did I get the right pot odds?

Hope to hear from you guys!

      Cheers,

      Hi Hesticus,

I think the call in the 2nd hand was BAD!
I made myself a rule: if i get confronted with a over potsize bet, i need to have a very good hand. This should probably most of the time be TwoPair+.
Here you definitively do not have the correct odds. You can try to put it in Equilab yourself. I just checked against one likely holding, which I put in as JdJc. I can imagine that villain raises pre, makes a cbet and then subsequently is too scared of potential river cards (flushes, straights, overcards) and so simply shoves.
You have 39% against that - it will not become any better unless you insert an unhealthy amount of bluffs. With calling much more than potsize, you need close to 50%.
To see a good thing about the hand, i would have played Pre&Postflop the same way, even though villains betsize on the flop is also not to my liking.

      Hi SvenBe,

Thank you very much for your answer :)

This is kind of the first time I made a serious attempt with Equilab. I come a bit to this conclusion. I tried to put :Jh: :Th:

      Conclusion of equity was this:

      http://www.power-equilab.com
      Board: 9h8h2s5s
      Equity Win Tie
      BU 65.32% 65.17% 0.15% { 99+, 22, J9s, T9s, 76s, JhTh }
      BB 34.68% 34.54% 0.15% { 8s7s }

Apologies, I had limited time during my answer.

Villain had a tight opening range so I didn't put him on many hands. However, after his bet OTF I only had the idea that villain had big pocket pairs and suited connectors. All other hands in a mw pot didn't make sense. Therefore, the range I made is very very tight indeed. If anyone would say differently, please tell!

In this case, indeed, I have only 34.68% equity and should strongly reconsider my all-in EVs for many other hands since I did it before as well. I listen to your advice SvenBe and will work on this. Thanks, much appreciated!

      Cheers,
