Hello to all Pokerstrategyers and visitors!
I have kept few blogs in finnish pokerstrategy for few months and since im bit of a statistics lecher I thought that I would get more readers if I write in english. :D

About me:
I am 19 years old hilgh school craduate from Finland. At me moment I am unemployed and I will start my mandatory 6 month service in the army 12.01.2009.

I have played poker for 5 years or so and real money online poker for 1,5 years. At first I lost 150-250$ in NL10 because I was too coffident and thought that every player besides me doesn't know anything about poker and they jsut win by luck. Bit of a angs way of thinking. :P

About hald a year ago I started to think the mathematics behind poker more and psychologic aspect of other players MUCH MORE. Eventually I started to win my lost money back thru some minor poker success and few bigger bonuses.

3 months ago my friend introduced me to Pokerstrategy and a new level in poker opened up in front of my eyes! I started to read strategy articles and downloaded PS Elephant giving me some stats and easy to study hand histories.

I started to play SSS but both of my tries (titan poker and pokerstars) ended up in a bad downswing:

After realizing that SSS is actually pretty hard strategy to play I went back to play BSS. Before discovering pokerstrategy I played 10 players NL10 but inspired by my firend I started to play 6 max NL10 at Titan poker.
Everything started up nice but then I hit the wall again!

While suffering from terrible downswing I realised that Titan poker has dozens and dozens SSS players and most BSS are pretty tight. So I got the feeling that I'm not getting max value out of my good hands. Also I only found good games at 20-22 a'clock so the gametime was short and strickt. So I decited to leave titan poker and try my luck at the massive pokerstars.

THIS BLOG IS ALL ABOUT MY SUCCES AT POKERSTARS SINCE 31.12.2008

This blog is called mesostigmata's year because my player name at pokerstars is Petopunkki whick is mesostigmata in finnish..
You can find the original finnish blog here. Most of the reades here presumably can't understand the language but you can find some statistics and examplehands there.

DAY 1 (31.12.2008)
+10$

Winnigs with top pairs, flushes, C-bets and sets. Specially pocket pairs were on fire when 4 out of 11 pocket pairs that saw flow made set! Biggest pot however was with TPTK. Someone might say that I played it too confident but this time it payed off.

Known players:
Position:
Stack
SB:
$9,70
Hero:
$12,25
BU:
$3,20

0,05/0,1 No-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)
Hand recorder used for this poker hand: PokerStrategy Elephant 0.67 by www.pokerstrategy.com.

Preflop: Hero is BB with A:spade: , K:diamond:
3 folds, BU calls $0,10, SB raises to $0,30, Hero raises to $1,20, BU folds, SB calls $0,90.

Flop: ($2,50) 8:diamond: , 7:heart: , K:spade: (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $1,70, SB raises to $3,40, Hero raises to $11,05 (All-In), SB calls $5,10 (All-In), Hero gets uncalled bet back.

I thought that this raise is as big as possible that SB will call after check. However the guy raises my bet but I didnt believe to set or two pairs. I just steamed all in and hoped that my read was correct.

Turn: ($19,50) 7:spade:
River: ($19,50) 4:heart: (2 players)

Final Pot: $19,50

Results follow (highlight to see):
SB shows two pairs, kings and sevens (Kh Qc)
Hero shows two pairs, kings and sevens (As Kd)

Hero wins with two pairs, kings and sevens (As Kd)

+3,05$

Games continued wictoriously despite small dificulties. At the beginning I lost 2,50$ with TT to 9-hi table when the other player had AA. The other big seback was with QQ. I bet strong to a crappy table and one guy called my bets with gut draw and made his straight on the river! These type of heroes seems to be common in Pokerstars

Same type of heroes saved my whole day just when I was shutting down all tables:

Known players:
Position:
Stack
CO:
$3,40
Hero:

Preflop: Hero is BU with Q:spade: , A:spade:
CO calls $0,10, Hero raises to $0,50, 2 folds, CO calls $0,40.

Flop: ($1,15) 4:diamond: , 4:heart: , Q:club: (2 players)
CO bets $2,90 (All-In), Hero calls $2,90.

Turn: ($6,95) Q:heart:
River: ($6,95) T:diamond: (2 players)

Final Pot: $6,95

Results follow (highlight to see):
Hero shows a full-house, queens full of fours (Qs As)
CO shows two pairs, queens and tens (8s Tc)

Haloo?

Known players:
Position:
Stack
MP3:
$3,90
Hero:
$10,85

Preflop: Hero is BU with K:diamond: , K:spade:
MP3 calls $0,10, CO folds, Hero raises to $0,50, 2 folds, MP3 calls $0,40.

Flop: ($1,15) 9:diamond: , K:club: , T:heart: (2 players)
MP3 checks, Hero bets $0,30, MP3 calls $0,30.

Turn: ($1,75) A:spade: (2 players)
MP3 bets $3,10 (All-In), Hero calls $3,10.

River: ($7,95) 6:club: (2 players)

Final Pot: $7,95

Results follow (highlight to see):
Hero shows three of a kind, kings (Kd Ks)
MP3 shows two pairs, kings and nines (Kh 9h)

Not the greates +EV move from the MP3 preflop. On the flop he was more or less dead money.

DAY 3 (03.01.2009)
+11,15$

Positive progress can not be stopped. Right in the beginning I doubled up by setting my 66 on a A-hi flop while other guy had AQ. After the doubleup I had to shut down poker because my cousins and their families came to a rare visit. After maintaining my family bonds I went back to play poker. The deck froze down on me and I also spent too much money drawing flush. Drawing wrong is my old habit that I seem not to be able to stop..
Downward spiral turned upside when guy with a 99 let me see turn really cheap while flop was full of draws. Turn gave me K and I didn't let it go. More oinment to my wounds gave this donk calling my AA preflop raise with K9. Flop was K73 and I made him go all in. Sadly he only had half a stack.

Best hand of the day however was perfect read from oponnent:

Known players:
Position:
Stack
BB:
$21,35
Hero:
$9,80

0,05/0,1 No-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)
Hand recorder used for this poker hand: PokerStrategy Elephant 0.67 by www.pokerstrategy.com.

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with Q:spade: , Q:heart:
MP2 folds, Hero raises to $0,40, 3 folds, BB calls $0,30.

Flop: ($0,85) 7:heart: , 4:club: , J:diamond: (2 players)
BB bets $0,60, Hero calls $0,60.

VERY few would bet on a flop like that if they have a set! So hand on a Donald Duck I immeadiately thought "RIGHT.. This guy has AJ.. Let it play Joe! I know how to call.".

Turn: ($2,05) 2:club: (2 players)
BB bets $1,50, Hero calls $1,50.

River: ($5,05) T:spade: (2 players)
BB bets $3,00, Hero calls $3,00.

This might have been a good spot for a raise but I just called.

Final Pot: $11,05

Results follow (highlight to see):
Hero shows a pair of queens (Qs Qh)
BB shows a pair of jacks (As Jc)

Hero wins with a pair of queens (Qs Qh)

+3,45$

I was going to play good ammount of hands today but ton of other stuff came to block poker. I was able to squeeze 3 hours of poker into my day but cards were moving slow and the amount of played hands stayed small. Profitable I was running in one spot. Won small pots and lost small pots.

After about 100 played hands I almost got my drive on when my 66 pocket made set on 6cKc2s flop and fish called my pot bet. Turn 9d and again pot bet with call. Riverin As didn't swing with the fish and my 5,50$ hit to a 9,65$ remained uncalled.

After that nice hand the fishpond took back some of its money:

Known players:
Position:
Stack
Hero:
$10,05
MP2:
$2,15
MP3:
$10,95
BU:
$5,00

Preflop: Hero is SB with K:heart: , A:spade:
MP2 calls $0,10, MP3 calls $0,10, CO folds, BU calls $0,10, Hero raises to $0,70, BB folds, MP2 calls $0,60, 2 folds.

Flop: ($1,70) K:diamond: , J:spade: , T:spade: (2 players)
Hero bets $0,90, MP2 raises to $1,45 (All-In), Hero calls $0,55.

Turn: ($4,60) 2:club:
River: ($4,60) 4:spade: (2 players)

Final Pot: $4,60

Results follow (highlight to see):
Hero shows a pair of kings (Kh As)
MP2 shows a flush, king high (Ks 9s)

MP2 wins with a flush, king high (Ks 9s)

Sometimes donkeys get lucky. Luckily these are +EV games.

In the end of a session I picked up some sort of a monster that raised my game to a winning side more clearly:
Known players:
Position:
Stack
SB:
$5,75
BB:
$10,00
MP2:
$3,20
Hero:
$9,95
BU:

Hand recorder used for this poker hand: PokerStrategy Elephant 0.67 by www.pokerstrategy.com.

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with 5:diamond: , 5:heart:
MP2 calls $0,10, Hero calls $0,10, CO folds, BU calls $0,10, SB calls $0,05, BB checks.

Flop: ($0,50) 9:heart: , 5:spade: , 5:club: (5 players)
SB checks, BB checks, MP2 checks, Hero checks, BU checks.

Turn: ($0,50) 2:spade: (5 players)
SB checks, BB checks, MP2 bets $0,40, Hero calls $0,40, 3 folds.

River: ($1,30) 8:diamond: (2 players)
MP2 bets $0,60, Hero raises to $4,40, MP2 calls $2,10 (All-In), Hero gets uncalled bet back.

Final Pot: $6,70

Results follow (highlight to see):
Hero shows four of a kind, fives (5d 5h)
MP2 shows two pairs, jacks and fives (Jd Jc)

Hero wins with four of a kind, fives (5d 5h)

Sadly only one player had will to bet and he had small stack. It would have been nice to go five-way all in :D

The deck keeps smiling on me. I now have two basic criterias in table selection: player per flop +35% and hands per hour -80. Seems to be working great! I stay at the table longer time if there is atleast two VPIP 50+ maniacs which Stars has in dozens!

Session of the day started little shivery. Again some problems letting to limped hand:

Known players:
Position:
Stack
SB:
$9,75
Hero:
$10,10
BU:
$6,90

0,05/0,1 No-Limit Hold'em (5 handed)
Hand recorder used for this poker hand: PokerStrategy Elephant 0.67 by www.pokerstrategy.com.

Preflop: Hero is BB with 2:heart: , 8:club:
2 folds, BU calls $0,10, SB calls $0,05, Hero checks.

Flop: ($0,30) 7:heart: , 9:club: , 6:club: (3 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, BU checks.

Turn: ($0,30) T:diamond: (3 players)
SB bets $0,10, Hero raises to $0,40, BU raises to $2,00, SB calls $1,90, Hero calls $1,60.

I have second nuts so call is obvious.

River: ($6,30) Q:club: (3 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, BU bets $2,40, SB folds, Hero calls $2,40.

I can't believe to flush. Somewhere in the back of my mind borns a terrible picture of J8 hand but i'm pretty confident about my hand so I call. I don't want to raise because flush is a strong option here.

Final Pot: $11,10

Results follow (highlight to see):
Hero shows a straight, ten high (2h 8c)
BU shows a straight, queen high (8d Jc)

BU wins with a straight, queen high (8d Jc)

Intuition was right but I did not listen..

That hand however only cost me 4.50$ so no bigie. I played hundred or so hands getting small pots and taking my course back towards zero limit. Suddenly money started to flow from doors and windows! Like you can quess from the post headline it was KK pockets that brought the money home. Funders part played always as nice LAG´s and Maniacs:

Outside the poker world I was getting ready for the army.. Installed PS Elephant to laptop and transferred some files from my PC and such. My neckwhip had it's Extreme Unction when I went to sauna. We will cut my 4 years freely grown hair tomorrow :(
Well.. It's just hair and will grow back. Hopefully...

Nice blog. I like the way it's structured and written. Good progress you have going on. I rated it 10 (or whatever the max is).

Cheers,
