I think you have the best hand here and villain is probably raising a Q, 8 or some pp hoping that you missed. You don't know this on the flop, but when he checks behind the turn it's pretty obvious.
So on the river you have 2 options:
      1. You can check-call and hope he turns his hand into a bluff.
      2. You can bet-fold and hope to get some value from some pair. Depending on the opponent I would consider calling a raise though, because you checked the turn, but that's gonna be high variance.

I think you made the best choice (check-call) because with the ace on board and the way the hand was played you're not gonna get value very often. You look really weak now and you will be bluffed a lot. Especially if the guy has an AF of 6. Reaaally small sample, but still increases the possibillity a bit.

bet more than half pot on the flop.

OOP I'd ship the flop most often in order to avoid hard decisions on the turn. If he has the set, so be it.

      bet 2/3 on the flop
with that af i call the flop and check call any turn ( even a) because he is bluffing a lot .
when he check behind turn his hand looks like a queen goint for pot control
its a good spot to block bet 1/2 pot
