My problem with pokervids.

I have huge problems with watching most vids on this site. They load fine, but they are mostly incredibly boring and repetetive, and I have trouble watching for more then 10 min at a time. If I find a vid that I have to see I split it and watch piece by piece. And that is a rare occasion.

The error is probably on my side on the most part, and I feel that I am missing out. I also know I have watched pokervids that are REALLY interesting and pokervids that have made me a better player.

      Any suggestions?

I just think that most of the vids just lack a purpose. Look at the new FL intro video. Its great. Because it has a purpose! Most other vids are just remakes, and I fail to see the purpose of that. Its like watching a documentary without a plot, when it should be more educational in my opinion. (At this point I also feel there are too many vids to know what the cream of the crop is!)

I mean no offence to the people spending the time to make the vids.

Next time the video producers will put an episode of Futurama in so it's fun for you to watch.

Well on the plus side, they recreate real playing situations against all kinds of villains (which might not all be covered in the theoretical videos) and you get to see hero's line of thought for every hand.

Those posts have 1 thing in common, they both make no sense really.

I read your post, but it's just a mistake from your side in my opinion. I don't really understand what you're trying to say. Should we make video series only? Spice it up with some porn through it at random times? How can it be more educational when it's filled with hands?

i think that what he is driving at is that the videos should have more structured sequence and a more defined objective, as opposed to sit and watch me play for 45mins.

Not saying that I agree just attempting to clarify the post.

I wish you would just say "that makes no sense, what are you getting at" instead of posting rude comments. Dont you agree. :]

      TFMonty clarifies my post well.

      What would you rather see;

Movie A - A session review/live of on the X$ something. "Sit and watch me play."

Movie B - A edited session review, showing the tough/interesting spots, skipping the "filler hands". Demonstrating strategies/information from the articles - "this is how you do this". And maybe some tips on does and donts for the given level.

Its a very very very powerful media. It can be so much more than what it is right now. That is my opinion, and its ok if nobody in the whole world shares it with me.

I also state clearly in the first post I have trouble focusing when it does not "grasp you" hard enough.

A structured video takes much more time and effort I guess.

My problem is that the videos are too long, I dont watch many videos because it scares me just to think of watching my screen for 40 mins.

Now if you made them last 20 mins I'd watch them all! (probably lol)

I'd agree that session reviews are generally more beneficial than live videos.
It takes longer to produce but the commentary will be of higher quality.. also you have the option to stop and pause at the more critical situations and just quickly go over or skip the obvious hands.

i like the videos as they provide a genuine example of what a person can expect from playing poker. lots of folding a few good plays and a few bad beats.

I have only watched the SNG videos so far,

And I must say there is nothing boring about them.

They are not just videos of watch me play, the producer of the video in most cases
is inviting you inside his head while he plays, telling you why he is making the plays he is.

I find the videos very insightful as to watching the range of the opponents, and how the
video producer knows the possible ranges, and applies an alternate version of the strategy
      section when needed.

Some of the videos are not as high in quality, and compared to the better videos they seem
lacking, however they are still worth a look, even if you skim through them.

It was one thing for me to read the long articles in the strategy section, but to see someone
play through the SNGs, and show me first hand how to apply the techniques and when,
      was invaluable.

Even in the videos where the coach does not do so well.

There is one video where the coach gets his ass handed to him over and over untill he
finally says "ok thats it for poker for me today or I will tilt."

That was a fine example of how not to alter from the proper playing style even if it is
seeming like it is losing you money.

      Hey Vargan,

I understand where you are coming from and we are trying to extend our general video offering to accommodate all tastes and preferences. There are several videos devoted to specific topics (check out Hasenbraten's Review series for example; http://www.pokerstrategy.com/video/2125 - http://www.pokerstrategy.com/video/2576 - http://www.pokerstrategy.com/video/1632 ) or Xarry's SSS video on Equity: http://www.pokerstrategy.com/video/2319 ) which are quite structured. Since these kind of videos take a lot more time to produce and many players are more than happy with regular live videos or session reviews they are not as big in numbers yet.

We do plan however to continue creating video series and theme videos in addition to seminar videos and other more clearly structured videos.

Thank you for the feedback ;)

      Best regards
      SoyCD

I don't agree because I didn't mean to be offensive, neither do I think that I was ^^

But to me it seemed like you just thought watching videos was boring anyway, so I kinda misunderstood you I guess, so I'm sorry for any misunderstanding :)

Its ok. Maybe I missunderstood you too. Im sorry too. :]

Alot of good replies in this thread. I like it.

Im genuinly into movies in real life, as I am a film-student in real life aswell. Maybe some of you will now think "aha" or maybe not. I guess my approach to them are different to alot of you. However, some of the replies here has helped me look at them another way.

My concentration-issues remain unsolved however. :P

If I was a good enough pokerplayer to teach others, I could probably contribute to the production, but I'm confident Im not that good yet. :)

      @SoyCD

Great news! :D Ill check out those links aswell.
