      Hi all,

my name is Sebastian and I have been on and off poker for quite some years now. Over the last year or so I have started to get into MTTs as a recreational player :f_drink: Now, I am in between jobs and potentially have a bit more time, I am posing myself a small challenge of...

      A Road of 500 Dreams

In a nutshell, I will play 500 MTTs until 31st October and I will reach the following goals doing it:

      1) play 500 dreams (aka MTTs), hopefully not too many RIPs...
      2) Get a positive RoI
      3) Post 500 hands in the forums
      4) Stick to my bankroll plan

I am mostly focussed on process and having some fun here, but maybe I will learn a thing or two and make enough cash for a drink :f_drink: It would be great if some of you follow me on this road with comments, advice or just nice words :f_biggrin:

oh yeah, some other technical stuff: sites I am playing at are stars, 888, netbet and party. Starting roll is 2k €

      Aaaaaaaaaaaand off we go :-)

      Hi guys,

quick update after 2 sessions and 24 tourneys. I decided to sign up at red kings and managed the only worthy finish there: 8/166 in the Mosh Pit Lite. Quite happy with it, as I never got above 20BB for the last 2 hours after running into AA with JJ and yet still managed to get on the FT :f_cool:

Unluckily, quite annoying way to end the final table...

      BB: 172,705.68 (17.3 bb)
      Hero (UTG+2): 79,501 (8 bb)
      MP1: 126,277.51 (12.6 bb)
      MP2: 70,713.26 (7.1 bb)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+2 with :Jd: :Jc:
      Hero raises to 78,501 and is all-in, MP1 folds, MP2 calls 69,713.26 and is all-in, 5 folds

      Flop: (162,426.52) :Ts: :4s: :9s: (2 players, 2 are all-in)
      Turn: (162,426.52) :Ad: (2 players, 2 are all-in)
      River: (162,426.52) :8h: (2 players, 2 are all-in)

      Results: 162,426.52 pot
      Final Board: :Ts: :4s: :9s: :Ad: :8h:
Hero showed :Jd: :Jc: and lost (-70,713.26 net)
      MP2 showed :9h: :9c: and won 162,426.52 (91,713.26 net)

Overall, not too happy about how I played, for 2 major reasons:

      • Need to stop playing more than 6 tables
      • Need to stop getting bored in the mid/late early part of a tourney

      Happy points :f_love: :

      • Feels good to do hand posting and quick review before session
      • Managed to re-focus throughout session

      Goals for next session:
      • Stay focussed all the way through --- Any tips are very welcome!
      • Play 6 tables at a time max

      Finally, current status on goals:

      • 24/500 Dreams :f_pleased:
      • Get a positive RoI: BR -5.2%... :f_cry:
      • 4/500 Hands posted, hoping to get some good replies :f_grin:
      • Stick to my bankroll plan: yes :f_biggrin:

Plan is to play Friday, Saturday and Sunday :f_cool:

That’s too bad the JJ hand. How was your weekend run go?
Further I wish you all the best to improve your MTT game and bankroll :gl:

      Hi all,

Thanks for the wishes! The goal of posting regularly seems out of the window... :-(

Anyways, a quick update on where I stand and some thoughts I had during the last few sessions.

      Thoughts
I noticed that staying focussed throughout teh whole tourney is quite hard. I also noticed that basically my play becomes a) too robotic and b) I think i bluff too much. Until now I have not found a real solution, but I have tried a few things:

      • get some fresh air during breaks and walk a few steps - works quiet well
      • "you don't win a tourney in the beginning, you only lose it" - I keep reminding myself, but sometimes too late :f_cry:
      • in between hands I take the hand of my mouse - this works surprisingly well, because the second of grabbing the mouse back is enough to give a bit of pause to think
      • limit table number to 6 - this definitely helps!

I will focus on my focus more during the next few sessions and I am sure it will help improve results :-)

      Results

      • 111/500 Dreams :f_pleased:
      • Get a positive RoI: BR flat
      • 5/500 Hands posted, HORRIBLE
      • Stick to my bankroll plan: yes :f_biggrin:

Sofar no win, though 3 final tables: Mosh Pit Lite 5th and 8th, 5th in the 6-max Special One on iPoker and a nice run in the $16.50 Bounty Builder in 51st place.

FT performance has been disappointing though. One time I squeezed in as a mega short stack and the rest just being too aggressive I guess. What do you think bout this hand:

Villian is quite passive, also been able to push him around post flop and take down pots without showdown. Looking back, his flattening of my 3-bet should have give me pause, but still I think the push is +cEV as many of his calling hands should find a fold, but not sure if its good from $EV perspective with quite some pay jumps...

      Hi all,

just a quick update. Trying my luck at some of the WCOOP-L events and had a nice run in the $11 PKO yesterday. First got lucky hunting for a $28 dollar bounty when next pay jump was only $5 and 100s of places away but then got handed a brutal pay back 45min before end of day 1... Guess it happens, just annoying to happen in these spots...

Overall, I seem not be able to accumalte a big enough stack in early/mid game often enough to be able to take advantage of it aroudn the bubble. Will look into the early mid game stage now and then I am positive to finally get a win this week :D

Thanks a lot. Was quite a run, especially after I started getting frustrated with my results, leading to an even worse study attitude. So this is definitely something to work on... So lets see how we stand and what the points to work on over the next few days are:

      • 196/500 Dreams :f_pleased:
      • Get a positive RoI: 136% :f_love:
      • 9/500 Hands posted, HORRIBLE
      • Stick to my bankroll plan: broke the rules in some WCOOC and UCOP events. Will also not play much bigger buy ins after the 2nd place last night, as I feel it is out of my league.

Not sure if I will play again before wednesday, when I got a free ticket for the $3k Tallin qualifier on Red Kings, but the goals over the next week are:

      • Look at balancing my 3-bet call/fold/push ranges
      • Go through all marked hands and post at least 2/3 of them
      • Look into mindset training videos --> suggestions welcome!

      Talk soon :)
