      Known players:
      SB:
      $28,45
      Hero:
      $52,74
      BU:
      $25,00

      0,1/0,25 No-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)
Hand recorder used for this poker hand: PokerStrategy Elephant 0.67 by www.pokerstrategy.com.

Preflop: Hero is BB with 5:heart: , 5:club:
3 folds, BU raises to $1,00, SB calls $0,90, Hero calls $0,75.

      Flop: ($3,00) 5:diamond: , T:club: , 5:spade: (3 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, BU bets $1,90, SB folds, Hero calls $1,90.

      Turn: ($6,80) 8:club: (2 players)
      Hero checks, BU checks.

      River: ($6,80) Q:club: (2 players)
Hero bets $3,50, BU calls $3,50.

      Final Pot: $13,80

How do I maximize my value here?

I figured that a hit would have bet turn again. An unhit might 2-barrel, but would fold to a bet. So I decided to check and hope for a bet.

check turn i think maximises your value as you said if he has air maybe he will barrel, if he has a T or better he will also bet. If he has a pocket pair 66-99 you are only going to get one more street of value anyway so you can get it on the river.

When he checks turn i don't think he has much at all, so when we get to the river he has maybe air, ace high, 99-66 or hopefully he hit the Q. If we bet i would imagine we fold out every hand apart from the Q so we should take a line that would maximise against the Q. I would bet more on the river to make it look more bluffy as it will be hard to put you on a hand.

How I play this depends on what sort of player BU is here.

If he is a TAG, who wants to protect his hand post flop, then this is a good flop to donk, because most often you can't have hit it, and he can have pairs and overcards that he will call or raise. If so then you can "give up" on the turn and just check. There may be more value there.

If he is passive then I like the way you played it.

Seems quite easy c/r to me.
Once he bets into two players he likely has here smt and players don´t mostly believe that you could have trips.
So they likely call on the flop and also half potsize bet on the river
When BU holds trash, then he´d likely check it back on the turn anyway.
