Hello there! My name is Josh, also known as skeetawomp, also known as Tha Tempest on FTP! I am a 19 year old Uni student from Oklahoma, smack dab in the middle of the United States. There is really no need to explain why I'm creating this blog, because most of you already know the answer to that question; my main goal is to become an active, winning player of the PokerStrategy community.

A little bit about my goals:
 I will be starting at NL.02/.05 6-handed, with a BR of 100$.
 Stick to strict BRM. This is crucial to becoming a successful player.
:heart:P lay with valueless money. Scared money will be my end.
 Learn 6-handed NL inside and out.
 Climb the limits as quickly as possible, but also very safely.
 Eventually be at a point where I am 100% confident about every move I make at the tables. This is a huge one for me.

I will be trying to put in at least 1k hands a day; that's my goal. So I should be updating this blog frequently, please feel free to drop by.

I've just finished today's session, lets have a look:

      My first flip:

Hand converted with online PokerStrategy hand converter:

      Known players:
      BU:
      $9.16
      SB:
      $6.90
      BB:
      $3.65
      MP2:
      $8.48
      MP3:
      $5.07
      CO:
      $5.15

      $0.02/$0.05 No-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)

Preflop: Hero is SB with K, A.
MP2 calls $0.05, MP3 folds, CO raises to $0.17, BU folds, Hero raises to $0.5, BB calls $0.45, MP2 folds, CO raises to $5.15(All-In), Hero raises to $6.9(All-In), BB folds.

      Flop: ($12.60) Q, 5, 9 (2 players)

      Turn: ($12.60) 2 (2 players)

      River: ($12.60) 4 (2 players)

      Final Pot: $12.60.

      Results follow (highlight to see):

Hero shows high card ace (Ks As)
CO shows a pair of jacks (Js Jd)
CO wins with a pair of jacks (Js Jd).

Two questionable plays with middle Aces:

Hand converted with online PokerStrategy hand converter:

      Known players:
      CO:
      $4.72
      BU:
      $7.69
      SB:
      $7.49
      BB:
      $4.75
      MP3:
      $4.26

      $0.02/$0.05 No-Limit Hold'em (5 handed)

Preflop: Hero is BU with A, Q.
MP3 calls $0.05, CO folds, Hero raises to $0.2, 2 folds, MP3 raises to $0.5, Hero calls $0.30.

      Flop: ($1.07) 8, Q, 7 (2 players)
      MP3 bets $0.35, Hero raises to $2, MP3 calls $1.65.

      Turn: ($5.07) 3 (2 players)
MP3 checks, Hero bets $1.76, MP3 folds, Hero gets uncalled bet back.

      Final Pot: $5.07.

      Results follow (highlight to see):

Hero shows a pair of queens (Ac Qs)
Hero wins with a pair of queens (Ac Qs).

At first glace I thought I definitely played it wrong, but MP3 was basically pot committed on the flop after my raise, so I kicked myself for not shoving all in instead of raising on the flop, and decided to do it on the turn anyway.

Hand converted with online PokerStrategy hand converter:

      Known players:
      SB:
      $3.03
      BB:
      $4.66
      MP3:
      $5.07
      CO:
      $3.83
      BU:
      $4.93

      $0.02/$0.05 No-Limit Hold'em (5 handed)

Preflop: Hero is BB with A, Q.
MP3 folds, CO calls $0.05, BU raises to $0.22, SB folds, Hero calls $0.17, CO folds.

      Flop: ($0.51) T, 5, Q (2 players)
Hero checks, BU bets $0.30, Hero raises to $1.2, BU calls $0.90.

      Turn: ($2.91) 7 (2 players)
Hero bets $3.24(All-In), BU folds, Hero gets uncalled bet back.

      Final Pot: $2.91.

      Results follow (highlight to see):

Hero shows a pair of queens (Ad Qc)
Hero wins with a pair of queens (Ad Qc).

No clue why I shoved here, but it looks like it worked this time..

      Limp with AA, no action:

Hand converted with online PokerStrategy hand converter:

      Known players:
      BU:
      $5.50
      SB:
      $5.02
      BB:
      $4.84
      MP2:
      $4.79
      MP3:
      $2.71
      CO:
      $7.91

      $0.02/$0.05 No-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)

      Preflop: Hero is MP2 with A, A.
Hero calls $0.05, 4 folds, BB checks.

      Flop: ($0.12) 9, 9, K (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $0.15, BB folds, Hero gets uncalled bet back.

      Final Pot: $0.12.

      Results follow:

Hero shows two pairs, aces and nines (A A)
Hero wins with two pairs, aces and nines (A A).

      Questionable overplay with Overpair:

Hand converted with online PokerStrategy hand converter:

      Known players:
      CO:
      $6.46
      BU:
      $5.54
      SB:
      $5.26
      BB:
      $4.46
      MP2:
      $7.11
      MP3:
      $3.07

      $0.02/$0.05 No-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)

Preflop: Hero is BU with Q, Q.
MP2 raises to $0.15, 2 folds, Hero raises to $0.75, SB folds, BB calls $0.70, MP2 folds.

      Flop: ($1.67) 2, 7, 4 (2 players)
BB bets $0.84, Hero raises to $4, BB calls $2.87(All-In).

      Turn: ($9.38) 2 (2 players)

      River: ($9.38) T (2 players)

      Final Pot: $9.38.

      Results follow (highlight to see):

Hero shows two pairs, queens and twos (Qc Qd)
BB shows two pairs, tens and twos (Ts Js)
Hero wins with two pairs, queens and twos (Qc Qd).

I justify my play on the flop because if I would have raised his bet it would have committed him to the pot if he called, so I figured I would shove it all in to extract maximum value for the hand, don't know if I played this correctly or not.

Here are my graphs for the day:

      Final Stats:
      Hands Played: 1,033
      Amount Won: +$11.21
      Total Bankroll: $118.17

Well, that's it for my first blog post, hope I didn't overdo it. Like I said before I should be updating frequently, and ANY feedback on any hands or the format of my blog is much appreciated. I'm trying to get better, so if you feel you can help me, go for it please. =]

Time to go get drunk. :D

Very nice start, I wish you good luck

I started out exactly like you, so will keep an eye on this blog :)

Just one advice, do not try any fancy moves like limping AA on your limit or over betting pots.
Its pretty -EV. Over betting the pot can get better hands to call most of the time and limping AA will put you into very tricky situations.

Just post you hands into the hand evaluation forum, it helps a lot if you have questions about your play etc.

Yeah, that's why I labeled the play as questionable. I get confused when I can make a bet that will pot commit someone, because I used to be a break-even SnG player when I first learned how to play poker, and the rule is if you're going to bet over half of your stack, just shove all in. Sometimes my brain gets confuzzled and what not. :p
