Is this an illegal move?

I'm wondering if this was an illegal move. Earlier this week in a live tourney, I was playing a hand which flop had just been revealed. Both blinds check and I picked three 1k chips and one 500 and before dropping them, went back, left one of the 1k chips and bet 2,500. I didn't announce my bet verbally. I wasn't called on it, but I still have the feeling that it is an illegal move. I know the ruling for string betting, that I can't go back and pick more chips, but still unsure if the single motion forward is still applicable here.

My gut feeling is that it is illegal and that, after reconsidering my bet size in mid-motion, I should have announced the bet and retrieve the extra chip, as verbal statements are binding. What do you think?

I think there's some kind of "line" on table which you can't cross with your chips. Not sure tbh

i think that if you say nothing, then it only counts as a bet when the chips touch the table, don't know the rules though.

only if you had put ur chips in.........if they were still in your hand then no problem, but ultimately is up to the individual casino/tournament director, although i cant see any having a problem with that

Pretty sure it only counts if you drop them. As long as you're still holding them (even if you start the forward motion) and you haven't announced anything then you can still change your mind.

In some casinos the forward motion is a call or bet as i found out watching high stakes poker when todd brunson tryed to get a read off phil laak by preending to put his chips in then take them out agen and it real casinos you cant do it! but id say a little friendly game you probly could
