      Hi,

In the hand below, I was playing on a tight table (no one with VPIP more than 15 and PFR more than 10). BB, who turned out to be loose, just joined the table. I decided to play AJo from MP1, mostly as a steal (I definitely was going to fold to a reraise, and I considered my hand to be a favourite against a call)

Hand converted with online PokerStrategy.com hand converter:

      $0.1/$0.2 No-Limit Hold'em (9 handed)

      Known players:
      SB:
      $23.05
      BB:
      $3.99
      UTG1:
      $27.48
      UTG2:
      $18.90
      MP1(Hero):
      $4.00
      MP2:
      $23.89
      MP3:
      $20.03
      CO:
      $19.10
      BU:
      $32.18

      Preflop: Hero is MP1 with A, J.
2 folds, Hero raises to $0.8, 5 folds, BB calls $0.60.

      Flop: ($1.70) T, 9, K (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $1.20, BB raises to $2.4, Hero raises to $3.2(All-In), BB calls $0.79(All-In).

      Turn: ($8.09) 8 (2 players)

      River: ($8.09) 5 (2 players)

      Final Pot: $8.09.

      Results follow (highlight to see):

Hero shows high card ace (As Jd)
BB shows two pairs, kings and fives (Kc 5h)
BB wins with two pairs, kings and fives (Kc 5h).

I know that AJo in this position is a borderline hand at best. However, do you think it's playable in this situation (tight table + my tight image)? I play it occasionally, should I stop doing it?
Also, was the bet + shove on the flop correct?

      Thanks!

      Hello,

Preflop: I am folding my AJo even with my image and tight table.

      As played
      Flop: Bet/Shove.

      Best regards,
      Rensu

First of all a steal is:
A steal is a first in raise from late position with the intent of winning the blinds without conflict.

Important factors for success of steals are :

      1. position (CO, BU or SB)
      2. your cards
      3. your opposition

Mp1 is no way being a steal position so just muck your AJo ;)

As played, I shove with the Nut FD + gutshot

      Best regards,
      Gerv

Well, the table was folding so much, I though that a steal even from such an early position was possible
The recommendation about folding AJ is understood, memorized, will do so from now on :)
Thanks a lot for your replies, and for the great site! Wish I'd known about PokerStrategy when I started playing, could've avoided quite a lot of unnecessary losses :)
