About me

Hello evreybody, my name is Christian I'm 20 years old living in Bucharest, Romania and I've been playing poker since November 2008. The funny thing about poker is that first I got involved in magic first after surfing the internet one day and seeing some street magic performed by David Blaine and Chris Angel. I could'nt sleep until I figure it out how could someone do the things these guys did and till this day some of them still elude me. In December 2008 I was introduced to the game of Texas Hold'em by a friend of mine and started playing in my living room SNGs. At first it was for free and there were only 4 players but now there are about 13 players and we usualy play evrey week 4-5 1$ SNGs. I admit it's more for the food and drinks but on a relaxing Saturday day what more can you desire then poker , food&drinks and the company of a beautiful woman?

Forward to 2009

Long story short I began playing poker online in February 2009 when I passed a quiz on a site and recieve 25$. Without proper BRM I had my ups and downs but eventualy I tillted and lost them all by the end of March. Then I decided that I'm gonna start all over again and the Magic happened and discovered PokerStrategy.com early April 2009. I passed the quiz, recieved the 50$ and my journey began on NL4 Texas Hold'em on PokerStars.

April 2009 was a good month for me both at NL4 at PartyPoker and on MTTs. This month I recieved Silver on PokerStrategy and I started to learn how the game really is played.
I learned SSS and I feel comfortable with it now because until I can reach a limit where BSS is profitable ( my opinion is that BSS should be played starting from NL25 ). At first I didn't like the variance at SSS because even if you did evreything right there is still a chance that you'll lose. This thing happened to me a lot of times on NL4 and I thing it will still happen because this is poker. But I would rather have MATH on my side than LUCK because you can't have LUCK on your side evrey day but you can have MATH on you side evrey day. Of course you need LUCK from time to time but I believe now that poker isn't just a game of luck it's a game of math, patience, knowledge, discipline, and wisdom.

During the last 2 weeks I've suffered a major loss in my bankroll (~$15) but I can't be angry because at one point was down ~$30.

The first week I was moving from 0$ to -13$ back to 0$ then -13$ and then finaly I managed to get at the end of the week with some small profit (0.24$). I know it's little but at least it's not negative.
I just realy don't know what happened the week started perfectly with my A A

BB:

CO:

BU(Hero):
$2.10
SB:

Preflop: Hero is BU with A, A.
MP3 folds, CO calls $0.04, Hero raises to $0.2, SB folds, BB calls $0.16, CO calls $0.16.

Flop: ($0.62) 4, 7, K (3 players)
BB checks, CO bets $0.28, Hero raises to $1.07, BB calls $1.07, CO calls $0.79.

Turn: ($3.83) 8 (3 players)
BB checks, CO checks, Hero raises to $0.83, BB calls $0.83, CO calls $0.83.

River: ($6.32) Q (3 players)
BB checks, CO checks.

Final Pot: $6.32.

Results follow:

CO shows a pair of kings (K 2)
Hero shows a pair of aces (A A)
BB shows a pair of kings (T K)
Hero wins with a pair of aces (A A).

[i]...but then I had bad beat after bad beat then back up and back down again. I have to get evrey hand posted on the hand evaluation forum so that I may learn something out of this mess otherwise it can happen again.

Last week I was down 15$ but I think that things are gonna change from now on for me.Today was a great day I'm up 13.17$(6BI for me) and I'm glad because I played solid SSS and I made only few mistakes like this one :

$0.02/$0.04 No-Limit Hold'em (9 handed)

Final Pot: $4.12.

Results follow:

Hero shows two pairs, threes and twos (2 3)
BU shows a straight, five high (4 5)
BU wins with a straight, five high (4 5).

I admit I've thought that he had Ax or a flush draw and didn't think of a straight. The other big pot I didn't win today was this one :

I thought he had a Q with a weaker kicker and after I saw 2 & 4 I thought I had him beat. My mistake was not raising pre-flop.

Hi BurlacuCG,

I see that you play NL4 with $2 (50 bb) and you follow the SSS strategy.

SSS is designed for 20 bb, so you raise 4bb + limpers preflop and then very often you could just push the flop because you don't have that much money left. But if you play with 50 bb's then pushing the flop would be a huge over bet and people mostly will call with better hands.

By playing half stack you don't get the advantages of the big stack where you could call with pocket pairs etc, hoping to hit your set and then take down a big pot.

I suggest either buying in for $4 at NL4 and play BSS or buy into NL10 for $2 and play SSS.

And maybe post some of your hands in the forum and re-read some of the articles. You always pick up new information by reading them again. :s_cool:

Like the AQ call UTG2... from the basic Starting Hands Chart (SHC) it is a fold preflop for both SSS and BSS (FR)...

Good luck!

I love playing SSS because I believe that playing BSS Is only profitable from NL25. For NL4 & NL10 on PartyPoker there are little diferences. On NL4 you can find tables with 4-5 BSS and 2-3 SSS but on NL10 I tend to find 2-3 BSS (usualy with more then 10$) and the rest of them SSS with 2$ who are only there to do what I do double up from the BSS so the table is tighter than in NL4.

Thanks for the advice I'll try to post evrey single hand that I don't know how to play 100% on the forum and re-read all the Bronze and the Silver articles.

Regarding the AQo Hand it was a pretty tight table and for some reason I called instead of folding.I was a mistake I know.

I'm curently playing at NL4 and NL10 and I hope that I'll swich to BSS very soon. I'm curently updating my blog :D

Hello Burlacule :) ,
Like the way your thread is developing, hope to see more of it in the near future. I say you should follow the SSS strategy of 20 big blinds at a limit and Follow the SHC. It works for me. at least until you feel ready to switch to BSS.
Greetings from a fellow romanian, Vlad.

Well this week has been my greatest week so far reagarding my bankroll and my style of play. 11 May was a good day but the entire week I have been on a masive upswing. The only bad beats I've had were when I ran KK with AA and QQ vs KK and my AA got cracked a few times with some sets all-in preflop but what can you do about it?
The first 3 days of the week I made 40$ (20BI) then on Thursday some variance kicked in but my only day when I came out negative was on Sunday when I reached -11$ quited when for some jogging and then manage to get back to -3,5$. A well a green week is a good week.

I also manage to clear my first 25$ from my 100$ second bonus from PokerStrategy.com and now my bankroll is at his maximum.

11 May - 17 May

Profit/Loss at CashGames : $46.57

Total Profit/Loss : $26.21

Hands Played : 12649

Bankroll : ~$138

After that I didn't ran into anymore trouble and manage to have a great session and at the end of it I had +12$ in my account.

I now have $150 in my account and I believe next week I'll start my NL25 assault. I need 46 Points so I can clear my second 25$ bonus so I may have enough money to start NL25. So my goals for this week are :

1. Obtain the second $25 bonus from PokerStartegy.com ( 46 PartyPoker Points needed )
2. Read all the articles in the Silver section ( I didn't read then all my mistake )
3. Post evrey hand on the forum that I'm not sure that I've played it profitable. ( there are a few )
4. Play at lest 1500 hands / day
5. Have a total bankroll of $175 at the end of the week. ( ~150$ - May 18)
6. Start SSS on NL25 @ PartyPoker and fry the :f_biggrin:

Yesterday I had a good session I got QQ 3 times and doubled each time unfortunatly I got my set of AA cracked on the turn with a flush and my flush cracked by a full house on the river. I the end it was a good session +3.66$ but a short one only 2H and ~1000 H so my objective of 1500H/day in this weak has failed.Hope I'll make it tomorow.

Flush vs. Full House : Hand Evaluation Forum for this hand

20 May

Today I attacked for the first time NL25 at 2 tables and let me say to you it's another game. The players are tighter then in the limits and table selection will become more inportant once I move to higher limits. I played only 120 hands and then I moved to NL4 & NL10 where I think for now I can make more money. I will stay put and try to build my bankroll to about $200 this week if I can then I will try it again.
At NL5 I got QQ vs KK, overplayed my set (KK) and got sucked out on the river(Note : Don't ever slowplay your set on drawy board ) but I still manage to get in the green zone and made a profit of ~6$.

Goals for 18 - 24 May

1. Obtain the second $25 bonus from PokerStartegy.com ( 17 PartyPoker Points needed )
2. Read all the articles in the Silver section ( Reading... )
3. Post evrey hand on the forum that I'm not sure that I've played it profitable. ( done )
4. Play at lest 1500 hands / day ( failed on Tuesday )
5. Have a total bankroll of $175 at the end of the week. ( ~160$ - May 20)
6. Start SSS on NL25 @ PartyPoker and fry the :f_biggrin:
( I will do this when I'll have my bankroll at 200$ )

I didn't make any profit today but I think it was because of the mistakes I made not variance. First lost a BI with J:heart: J:club: vs. Q:spade: K :spade: then after grinding back a BI I lost it on another hand with TT vs. KK > Hand Evaluation Forum for this hand (for some reason I putted him on AK), lost with AA vs. QJo ( flopped 2 J on flop) but then my luck finaly changed and won $7 with my K:heart: K:club: vs. A  K:diamond: vs. Q:heart: Q:spade: . Of course a profit of 1BI for the day wassn't enough for me and I misclicked a button and ended up losing a BI with 44. Made 0.7$ today played only 700 hands.

Leason learned:

1.Don't EVER EVER MISSCLICK a hand. It might cost you your entire bankroll. If you can't think for a second about your hand then you are playing to MANY TABLES.
1.2. If you did missclick don't try to win the hand by bluffing big.
2.Don't shove TT on 9 high board if you are re-raised pre-flop by a TAG player you are ofter behind agains JJ+,AK
.

22 May - First day of NL25

Today I decided to mix NL4 with NL25 for the first time.In the morning I started veru good playing SSS : AA vs. QQ was the first hand and I won my first 9$ POT, after that 2$ with A9 floping TPTK and set on turn. Then on NL4 a bad beat came set vs straight on flop and on NL25 QQ vs KK bought me back to 0.The bad beat remained on NL25(I closed the NL4 tables because I wanted to concentrate more on my game) loosing another BI with JJ vs KK. Then a fish came to my table playing evrey hand and raising with garbage and I lost with AK vs 33 Hand Evaluation Forum for this hand another buy-in.Total profit : -18$ so my first session of NL25 wassn't so profitable but first day right?.

Took a break the return to the tables at NL4. Lost with AK vs. JJ (J on turn). Then won with AK vs AA vs JJ runner-runner flush and my luck changed. Won AK vs flush draw, AK vs KJ,88 vs 33(set vs set on flop) and so on untill I was at +14$.The only hand I didn't won was QQ vs AJs (floped set on flop then his flush came on turn).
Another break the back at the tables but unfortunately I started loosing again : JJ vs QQ,QQ vs KK;AK vs AA (A on board);KK vs 66 (6 on turn) and lost -13$.

Late in the evening lost another BI with KK vs AQ (Q on flop all-in then A on turn and river) so I decided to STOP.

Much variance today but I guess I should be on profit. No matter I will take another shot at NL25 tomorrow.

23 May - 24 May

The last 2 days were good for me.I completed my 150$ bankroll and I will start NL25 tomorrow.I made 7$ profit but without variance it would be above +15$ now but what can you do poker right?

26 May - Doomsday
Started a short session right after midnight.Had a very cold deck but manage to win a coinflip AK vs JJ (A on river) but losted in the blinds and overplayed AGAIN my TT this time on Q high board. Profit -1BI.

Started a session in the afternoon and imediatly doubled with a set of 88 > Hand Evaluation Forum for this hand

Then...

Lost : Q:club: Q:spade: vs. A:spade: K:club: 56/43(coinflip) (got a :club: on river).

Lost : J:diamond: J:heart: vs. Q:heart: 8:heart: 83/16(post-flop) (got a Q on the river)

Lost : Q:diamond: Q:club: vs. A:spade: 5:diamond: 80/20(post-flop) (got a A on the turn)

Won : Q:club: 4:heart: vs. Q:spade: 3:spade: 98/2(post-turn) (he had 2% chance of spliting the pot)

So for 1 day my profit should have been over 40$ but it's -4$.Why? I believe it's variance.I was still trying to get back to 0 so I played another session in the evening. But the variance was at his begining...

The evening session was horrible.

Won : Q:club: Q:diamond: vs. A:spade: K:heart: (coinflip)

Won : Q:heart: Q:diamond: vs. T:club: T:diamond: (80/20 all-in prelflop)

Lost : J:club: J:heart: vs. Q:heart: Q:club: 20/80 (all-in pre-flop after a raise from him from the SB) > Hand Evaluation Forum for this hand

Lost : J:heart: J:diamond: vs. 9:spade: 9:diamond: vs. 4:heart: 6:heart: (all-in post-flop 547 flop) > Hand Evaluation Forum for this hand

Lost : A:heart: K:diamond: vs. 55 vs. 4:heart: 6:heart: (all-in post-flop 547 flop

Lost : 5:spade: 5:heart: vs. A:spade: K:diamond: First mistake push all-in post-flop and missed the flop

Won : A:spade: K:diamond: vs. 5:spade: 6:spade: (K on flop and he didn't made his flush draw)

Lost : A:heart: K:club: vs. K:spade: K:heart: Second mistake should push all-in pre-flop but instead raised 2,5$. No A on board.

Won : K:spade: K:heart: vs. Q:diamond: Q:spade: (80/20 slowplayed my KK from UTG)

Won : A:diamond: A:spade: vs. A:club: Q:diamond: (A on flop and I got it all-in until the river)

Won : A:diamond: Q:club: vs. J:diamond: 9:spade: (A & Q on flop soo...)

Lost : A:club: J:club: vs. K:club: Q:heart: Third mistake - should flop post-flop.

Won : J:diamond: J:spade: vs. A:diamond: Q:diamond: ( K:spade: 5:heart: 5:diamond: comes and then he makes runner-runner flush)

Lost : 1BI with a busted flush-draw

Did some stupid mistakes that month.Played NL50 SSS with an agressive bankroll but I got some variance and I quickly started going on tilt. I managed to lost more than 100$ but a valuable lesson I learned. Stop limit rule saves your bankroll.

August 2009

Since August 2009 I decide that I'll play poker part-time and I'll start withdrawing a fixed sum evrey month so I can benefit from poker.I played NL4 using SSS chart and at the end of the month after a downswing I was +20$. Played only cash games and concentrating on getting to 4000 points so i can cashout a big 350$ from PartyPoker.

September 2009

September was the first month where I actualy got to spend money from poker. It felt great and even if the sum is little I know that in the future it will get bigger as my expences will probably get too :D I did some stupind things in September after playing the first 10 days NL4 1 night I decided to attack again NL50 and in one night I lost all my profit from 1 week. This is my greatest leak. The problem is I know I'm playing well but variance is so sick when you have and aggresive bankroll. I'm an idiot I know. To make things worse I didn't respect my lost limit rule and lost one night 10BI.
The end of the month was sick. I had to do 100 PartyPoints in one night to get a 100$ bonus and i was running with like 100$ only in my bankroll. And gues what my internet connection wasn't working so I had to do a one nighter at a poker friends house. I was nerv wreking but finally I managed to get the bonus and end another month of poker. But things are changing from October since I don't wan't to play wreklessly anymore.
