      Hello all,

I am Jonas from the Dutch community (I am Belgian though) and I play online poker for 1.5 years now. In the beginning I was just a fish who tought he was the best and I started with some freerolls and eventually work up from $0 to $70 or something with sngs on everest.

Problem was that I never took it very serious and that I just did what I wanted to do that day. So I did play some Horse, 8-game, FL etc without any proper goal.

August 2008, a friend introduced me to Pokerstrategy and I liked the site from the start (duh, you get $50 cash to play poker!!). I started reading the sss articles and joined the Ipoker network where I got from €37 to €350 in no time using the sss and an aggressive brm of 7-8 buy ins :D . After a few days I lost pretty quick 3 buy ins on NL200 and got scared and cashed out some money to put it safe. So my br was down to $80.

After this I realised it isnt just easy money. I had to work hard and especially BE PATIENT. So I joined Pokerstars with my tiny br and started playing some sngs. I read some articles, saw some videos and attended 2 coachings of the great Nick. I worked my way up to the $6.5 and did beat this limit pretty good.

But I still had difficulties overcoming the variance. I had a period of over 100 where I did ran break even (I thought that was a lot) and so I wanted to try something else.

After this I moved to Party with a $400 br to play BSS SH (has to be somewhere in January I think). I started playing on NL10 and it was so fishy that I went to NL25 pretty quick. From this moment I took poker more and more serious. I attended coaching, saw videos, posted hands in the fora and talked about strategy with some friends.

When my first deposit bonus was over I did go back to Stars because I like the software soooo much. My roll was over $1200 now and I started to take some shots at NL50. This went OK but I had some problems with the playing style. It is so aggressive and I always have been a pretty TAGgy person (14/12) and it didnt worked that well. I could play pretty solid LAG but I dont like to play that way.

So I decided to go to FR and thats where I am at this moment. I am playing it now for approx. 1 month and I really like it. I don't have to be squeezing with J9s anymore and it works very well for me.

I started playing NL50 FR and I was amazed by the fishyness of it. Players arent just less aggro than in SH but they are just worse in general :f_love: .

At this moment I worked up to a bankroll of $2500, after 3 weeks multitabling fr (18-24 tables for 1-2 hours a day) and I am taking shots at NL100.

So this is about for the opening post:) . I hope you had a nice read and I will try to update it as often as I think is necessary. I also hope to meet other FR players so we can all improve our game!

      Greetings from Malle, Belgium

      Update of opening post:

I'm a master student at the University of Antwerp in Applied Economics and I hope to graduate in September. This matters because in week i'm in town and in weekend I go to the country side where I dont have a good pc. I don't have stats or graphs on this pc so I will post a few as soon as I am back at my place.

I plan to play a session this evening though. No NL100 because stats are getting important on these stakes but just massive NL50 multitabling :s_biggrin: .

      Hi

How do you play OP and TP(QQ+,AK) when you meet resistance from a regular and you are oop?

Depends on aggressiveness of opponent and on texture of board.

Drawy board and aggro opponent: bet/shove
      Dry and nit: easy b/f

But I mostly give them credit the first time until I see them making mistakes in same situations.

Tonight I did play a session again at home (so without stats) and it didnt work out very well. I did play pretty well I think or at least pretty standard for me, no big mistakes. But after a 2 hour session I checked my br and it was pretty much break even. So no big things happened.

Because I multitable I cant seen if I run good or bad during a session, which is a pretty good point according to me. By this I hardly tilt because of a bad beat as I didnt saw it:P . So I make my decisions purely based upon my position, opponents etc.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that I still play some mtt sngs occassionallly. Since I started with fr I didnt had such session so I thought I'd give it a shot tonight.

I played the 45/180 man sng from $6-$12 and run really bad. I got kicked out of 18/20 sngs pretty soon and in one I just reached ITM. So i was about to lose a decent amount of buy ins but in one sng (a $12 180 man :D ) I ran pretty good. And then this hand came:

      No Limit Holdem Tournament

      SB joest1970 (9147)
      BB Jarudis (3435)

      Blinds: 600/1200 Ante 125

      River: 7:club: (28,085, 4 players)
      Hero says "sick"

      Final Pot: 27,268
      Jarudis shows: K:heart: K:spade:
      Roypiter shows: J:club: J:heart:
      Hero shows: A:spade: A:diamond:
      joest1970 shows: A:heart: Q:heart:

      Hero wins 28,085 ( won +18,246 )
      Jarudis lost -3,310
      Roypiter lost -5,039
      joest1970 lost -9,022

which gave me the chiplead, so I was about to ship because we were only 12 people left. But I did lose KK vs AK against a bigstack :( so I came to the final table as a shortie. I was carddead for a long time but my pushes were respected so I managed to steal the blinds once per orbit. But my cards were so bad I just couldnt push 2/orbit. Then I get 33 on BU and BB called with AJ and I was out as 3th. Pretty decent as it gave me $230. So I finally did make $80 after all.

I am satisfied about my play as I dont think I made any huge mistakes and the level still isnt that high so I am gonna take other shots real soon!

      Goodnight to all of you

After 2 days of rest I decided to play NL100 for 1.5hour again. Went pretty decent, I didnt made that many mistakes I think but had some bad run in first part and good run in second so kinda makes it up:P .

Here is my graph so far for NL100:

As you see I didnt play many hands on this limit but I recently changed so. I plan to switch to this limit full time in the coming days. I hope I can remain at a positive winrate (6bb/100 but no sample).

I'm sorry that I cant post any graphs of my NL50 adventure as I work with elephant and their database system sucks. It runs very slowly if I have like 30k+ hands so I delete them once in a while :f_frown: , but I should find a solution to this.

Anyways, here are some interesting hands of this session:

      Just a quick update.

Did ran pretty shaait today. 3 stacks down in 1.5k hands but most due to coolers and beats so no problem. A few bad (tilt) moves as well so I really should try to get that under control.

Now I'm gonna play some guitar before going to bed.

      Cheers :s_grin:

During week I'm at my place in town and there I play NL100 (since 1-2 weeks) with statistics of the Elephant but in weekends I live with my parents and here is only one shitty PC so I dont play with stats here. And to compensate this I go one limit lower and double my amount of tables :s_biggrin:

Oh, two days ago I also decide to get myself a first private coaching. Because I think it is crucial to become a (really) good player. So I thank FR-coach Rogier from the Dutch community for his time and effort. I had a great time and discovered some new insights which is great.

Tonight I played a session of 1.5u 20 tabling NL50 and got like one stack up or something and a bunch of FPPs which is good :D .

First of all my apologies for not updating this blog but I had a busy period. I finished my exams now which is great. But I also have a Dutch blog and there goes most of my effort to:) .

Anyways I set myself a (small) goal for the next 4 weeks. I have to write my masterthesis this period so during the day I will work for university but I plan to spend 3 hours a day to poker as well.

1hour will go to studying (watching videos, reading articles)
      and 2 hours of play.

      So concrete goals are:

:diamond: play 40k hands on NL100 FR
:diamond: winrate of at least 2.5 ptbb/100 (not that much, but I play 16-20 tables)

:diamond: become Supernova on Stars by the end of this year

atm 15.565/100.000 (I play on Stars for like 1.5 month now, but this was during a busy period)

I also have a small graph of my short FR adverture, but it goes pretty well:

This was all when multitabling so I'm very satisfied with this and I hope it is sustainable.

I'll try to update this blog once a week from now on :s_cool:

      Finally a much needed update!

I have a blog on the Dutch forum that I update regularly but as I'm need of a new spirit/challenge I will continue my blog here in the English forum. This way I also want to get in touch with new players so we can improve each others (poker) knowledge.

So what happened to me the last months (my last update is from June, such a shame :D ). In July I went to India for 3 weeks to go hiking in the Himalaya, this was one of the greatest experiences of my life and I will defo do such trip again as soon as I can. The weeks after that I had to study pretty hard cause I had to finish my Masters degree in Economics. I failed to do that, so I had to stay a semester longer in Uni than planned.

Last months of the year I picked up poker again, grinded some more, saw some more videos, took some coachings. I went from NL100 FR to NL200.

I beat NL100 with a winrate of approx 3BB/100 during multitabling (20 tables).

When I took the step to NL200 I wanted to decrease my amount of tables a bit to increase my reads/tells so I improved my game faster.

In the beginning it didnt go that well, regulars were much better at this stake and it took some time to adapt but right now I'm confident to say that I beat this limit as well.

Here is a graph of my last 40k hands of NL200:

Especially my non-sd winnings increased a lot, at NL100 is was a steady downwards line whereas today its actually increasing!

I also took shots at NL400 but regulars where very good there at Stars and I also had a lot of setups/coolers in my disfavor. I have lost 8-10 buy ins on that limit already I guess. But I believe I can beat that limit. I am just in need of some extra time.

I hired my second coach right now (one of the best players of this community), to make sure I get the right knowledge to beat this stake.

      YES, I CAN

PS: I'll update regularly from now on :f_cool:

Very nice, well done! Thanks for providing your stats, I'm trying to improve my FR game so I can play it more regularly on nl100 :f_p:
