This hand sucked bad for me. I probably should have raised more preflop but i had been in much action previously and i thought it might be a waste of money. Then i get a set on the flop , flush draws are possible but generally i thought its relatively safe. Should i have gone all-in directly on the flop , instead of making half pot bets?
Needless to say i was very dissapointed to lose this hand. The guy was calling with a gutshot.

IMO you should have made an allin bet on the flop to protect against the draws

You should make a standardraise preflop, don't get upset and change your play just because you are losing.
4BB is fine here to drive the total crap hands out.
On the flop with 5 opponents its close between going All-In and check-Raising the field All-In , since there is often a quite high propability that anyone behind you will bet if you check.
But betting only that little amount lets all the draws in (Straight- and Flushdraws, which are likely for 4 opponents to have).

So options are All-In or check-Raise All-In, pick the Check-Raise if you have aggressive opponents behind you and you are very sure there will be a bet if you check.
