Varying the Pre-Flop Raise

I know that the standard pre-flop raise is 4bb+1bb per caller, but I was wondering if it could be profitable for me to raise different amounts in certain situations. For example, if I am on the button and there have not been any callers yet, can I raise to 3bb? Also, if I am UTG, can I raise to 5bb?

I play according to old strategy to raise BU and CO 3BB, if no one lipmed. But I don't get EP raise 5BB? It is so tight raise range anyway... I'm talking about SSS BTW...

I think you should do 4bb+1pl in UTG/MP positions, and you can go to 3.5bb+1pl in CU/Button, and In the blinds you can do 5bb+1pl.

But thats BSS shorthand though, SSS I think you should stick with the program. :f_biggrin:
