      It's possible that you're beat on the river (Jx, a set, AK), but it's also possible you're ahead (Ax, worse two pairs, worse pairs if he's really bad, busted flushdraws that did or did not pickup a pair along the way). Since you can't c/f for those odds and check/calling will just result in you going up against a tighter range than simply shoving (unless you think he can bluff his busted spadedraws into you, which you probably don't), so getting it in yourself is the best line imo. NH.
