Hello everyone!

First of all, this is my first blog ever, so be kind and provide me with suggestions how to improve my poker life (would not call it a career yet) and my blog.

:club: About me :club:

My name is Vytautas Gružas I am 21 years old. I live in Lithuania (more about my country next time). I study in an LCC International University already a third year student, Business Administration major, English minor. I live in the dorm 170km away from my parents and my birth city.

:club: Poker and me :club:

I started playing poker with my friends, those were just friendly card games in the yard. Few years later I ran into Pokerstrategy.com, completed the quiz, received the capital on Mansion poker... and lost it all because of bad bankroll management and poor poker knowledge. After some months decided to try poker again, deposited $50 to poker stars and surprise, surprise lost all of it again! And the story goes again.. after half a year deposited to Full tilt poker. Been playin there for a while ~800 games total. Played sngs and during last summer I really liked 90man $3 KOs.. Cashed out ~$300. When September started I just could not win anymore on FTP despite the fact that it seemed I played good. So I dropped FTP.

Finally.. I turned on my old Pokerstars account that had $0.7 played some micro cash, few sng and a MTT and boom i had $30. From there on I played $1 normal SNGs until I reached $60 then started $3 normals. Played 4-6tables probably 200 more sngs reaching $120 then started going down, I just could not win.. (But the tilt went away and I just repeat to myself that it is just variance.) Yesterday after registering to 3sng ant 1mtt my cashier showed $50 and I said to myself: if I loose these I have to go down a level. I lost 3sngs.. But I did really great on my $4.40 180man mtt and took the first place, I was very concentrated and thought over every hand I play. so now my PS bankroll = $266

And in addition to online poker I play some live games.

1. We play 2-3 times a week in the dorm ~12-20 players, the games are pretty fun I have pretty good reads on people and can make an amount of moves on them. In conclusion I actually profit from these games despite that the buy in is pretty low (10LTL = $3.7 with rebuys).

2. Sometimes we go to our city casino. Played 4-6 times there did not cash once. The players are really good, and I cannot say that my live tournament game is good, I need more experience. But the games are very exciting for me since you learn a lot more when playing better players.

:club: Why blog...? :club:

I realized that I lack poker experience, theory as well as practice. Since I really am obsessed with poker at the moment (sleep -think poker, eat - think poker, party - think poker) I want to make something bigger than just few fun hours online or with friends and I believe that making a blog will provide me with more persistance, willpower and ofcourse help since I have been reading blogs and articles for quite a long time and see what a great community you are!

Now I try to practice every day with the ICM, atleast 200 hands higher than 90%. I would like to watch some sng videos but cannot find any decent sites(I am not tracked on PS or FTP :( ). I have also started reading poker books (I hate reading.. but it's for poker!!) now I am reading Winning Low Limit Hold'em (Lee Jones), as far as I am now (~30% done) iI seem to recognize everything pretty good.

So what do you think about my blog? Do you like my goals? Do you think my bankroll management is good or not? Where could I find some poker videos? What software would be suitable for me to use? Could you suggest any books to read for my experience level?

Thanks in advance and see you next time! I am off to my dorm game!

i think your goals are a bit extreme for 2009. in just 3 months you want to go pro, that really isn't a long time and i doubt you could do that in such a short amount of time. Going pro and living off poker is a dream for most of us, but not many actualy can.

Gl with your blog though and im playing SnG to currently with only a $50 bankroll, i seem to breakeven the whole time and im not to happy with that.

btw for books. i would buy Doyle Brunson super system and every hand revealed by Gus Hansen. I heard those were great books and im buying that myself once my bankroll is higher. And ofcourse i would get a book for SNG specifically (<- im sure i wrote that wrong lol)

From there on I played $1 normal SNGs until I reached $60 then started $3 normals.

Im guessing you skipped the bankrollmanagement part in the quiz. You should have 50 BI for SNG not 20 o.O im actualy surprised you haven't busted yet. Alot of players even use a 100 BI rule. so i would really suggest reading that article..

Thanks for the response!

No no, maybe I put it wrong in the first post I don't expect to become pro in such a short term or live by my own (have own flat, car etc.). I live in the university dorm, my parents pay for my studies for now and for the dorm rent. Maybe I should express that in 3months I would like to have money for my own needs ie. buying food, clothes, other necessities and of course for entertainment.

How long have you been playing sngs Hahaownedlolz?

I have Doyles super system as an ebook so this will be my next reading probably.

And no I did not skip the bankroll articles. I just seem to be better than a lot of those players on $1.. Maybe that might seem arrogant, but I think $3 Sngs worked out for me pretty good. We will see how it goes!

P.S. I took the first place in our little dorm tournament there were 14 players. I got 10x profit from the buy-in. ! Tomorrow I'll post some info about my Sngs on pokerstars.

Nice intro fluffykiller :s_thumbsup:

Welcome to the community and good luck with your blog.

I too grind away the Sng's for my sins, so will be interested in following your blog and seeing how you get on.

Will also try to help wherever possible if I manage to think up any words of wisdom sometime :D

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the Super System. Not the best book out there imo. You could check out the Media forum board however for other members suggestions. Of course if you've already got it, worth a read, but don't go out of your way or anything.

Good luck Vytautas, nice to meet me.

Best regards,

Hello fluffykiller,

nice blog! I am also a SnG grinder, I wish you the best of luck with your goals. remember to stick to a 80-100BI rule from now on. You were lucky enough not to get big variances whilst at the 1-3$ BI. :)

Remember to post hands in the sample hands forum to get opinions on tough situations. and i recommend investing in some sort of tracking program like holdem manager or poker tracker 3. these tools are fantastic for your game and well worth the $!

i've actualy only been playing real money S&G since 20 september when i won $22 in a $1000 freerol by becomming 7th of the 4500 people the entered the tournament.

In 10 days i made that into $50 but since then i havent had much luck. Mostly due to bad luck. lost 3 times with AA today.. i keep winning and then losing again. Gets me nowhere, getting a bit discouraged to be honest. im getting alot of bad beats. but tbh i don't believe in downswings, i believe in good play xD

Thanks EagleStar and nice to meet you too! Ok I will be browsing the media board untill I finish reading the current book by the time I finish it I will have chosen the other :)

Hi lessthanthreee! Oh great, then we will be able to share experience too! :) Yes I know my bankroll management was extreme on the micro levels, but I will use 80BI rule from now on!

Hahaownedlolz no worries just don't give up! Poker is cruel, if you keep on playing good soon you will be rising up!

Today I have played only one small session, because my laptop got (probably has been) infected with key loggers and spyware so I am not going to risk to loose any of my funds (I do quite a lot of online transactions) and will not play or do anything for today, tomorow I'll get back to my home town, fix my laptop, ensure all my funds are safe and will play some poker!

Good Morning everyone!

Yesterday, after spending hours fixing my laptop and trying to understand what was the problem I gave up and just did format: c .... :( Re-installed my windows to save my time and nerves. With fresh software and smooth laptop work I though I will play some great poker! And I did.. However, it did not went good at all...

I played:

26 SNG = 1 3rd place and 5 2nd places..

4 180man $4.4 MTTs = 1 11th place (got busted with AA.. All in versus 98 he flops 99..)

Overall I played 4 short sessions..

3 of them went horrible 1 went pretty good out of 5sngs 4 in the money and I won 11th place on the MTT.. The sessions are very wavy even though I seem to play the same. Today I will try to rethink my game and pay more attention to it.

TO the tables!

Bankroll = 214.56 :(

Today was not a good day too. It seemed that I played most of the hands good but just could not make it to the money most of the time since someone else outdraws me, sucksout, reraises me and I fold the best hand.

It really tilts me.. HOw many games do I have to play to avoid these idiots???

It seems that the players on $3.40 SNGs are even worse than on $1 ones... How do I beat them?

Still I am in the mood of playing and still believe that if I play as I play I will eventually overcome all the bad calls others make.

:club: Some hands from todays sessions :club:

Do you think I should have folded the shove? Or Should I have folded the hand preflop?

After such loosing sessions I get mad not because others make such bad calls, but that they get so lucky and so often (and a lot of times they suck out on me! hehe).

:club: STATUS :club:

Am I a big fish or a small fish???

Played only about 15-17 SNGS and few MTTs that did not went well.
So my Brankroll = $201

I decided that if I drop less than 50BI I will move down a level and will move up a level if I have 80BI.

So if the loosing continous (then it's probably my fault and not bad beats, suckouts) I will move down to $1 SNGs :( But this will save me from getting broke.

However, I still believe in poker gods and I am still motivated to play. Another day another game. Good night everyone, good luck with your play!

This morning after a good sleep I woke up early, went to the shower had a good breakfast and decided to do a micro lockdown!

I started playing 10PM and will go on for 12hours. Hell yeah! Of course I will make one short break to eat something and rest my head.

So far I have played almost 5 hours. I am a starting player so don't laugh I can multitable only 4-6 tables, so my SNG count is low :P

LOCKDOWN results so far:

:club: Sessions played:4 :club:
:club: Total SNGs:26 :club:

:diamond: Session 1 :diamond:

7 SNGs played, cashed only in one.. It was going horrible. Lost 4 SNGs because I was up against AA when I had lower pair or AK or AQ.. Aces were flying around my butt like crazy.

:diamond: Session 2 & 3 :diamond:

Again played 7 & 6 SNGs on sessions, but the sessions went even worse. It seemed that everyone calls me when I am weak and folds when I have a hand. cashed only 2-3 SNGs.

After 3 short sessions I went down to about $187

Felt like this guy..!

However, I put myself in place, regrouped and started a new session of SNGs. Played very concentrated, always thought about what can others have and tried to avoid dangerous places even with the best hand. And in some time I understood I'm pressing my mouse like crazy, 4 head ups already!

:diamond: Session 4 :diamond:

1 4th place
3 2nd places
2 1st places

This sessions paid of my first three loosing sessions!

Bankroll = $214

Outcome: UTG+1 won t2335

Was there any reason to fold the hand? After such hands I understand that I usually do not fold QQ and JJ to 3-4 bets.. :/

Bubble bubble bubble!!! After the hand I thought maybe I should have just called. THen I could fold on the flop... I thought the big stack was raising with weak hand and will fold to a shove, he didn't.. I guess calling would have been best or I should have just folded them preflop?

What do you think about this play? I did not have any read on the guy since it was the start of the SNG. Maybe I should have playd more aggresively? What do you think about the fold?

Later on i got some chips up to 1300 got AA the other guy got KK and this guy got QQ we went to all ins and my Aces held up! Revenge!

Hope you enjoyed and can comment on my play and progress ( if there is any lol!).

Will be bringing news later!

Just a quick update on yesterdays play. I was tired and had to study late last night so did not bother to finish yesterdays post.

Played 3 small sessions more. Again one was good two other were horrible.. I don't understand why I loose all table on one session and on the other I cash in almost all tables.. Crazy ?(

I understood how bad is my bubble play. I bubbled in 4 out of 6sngs on session 2 even when I held chip lead on 2 tables. I guess I need to get a little more tigher.

:diamond: Session 1 :diamond:

6 sngs played = 1 2nd place 2 1st places

cost = $20.4

winnings = $35.1

profit = $14.7

:diamond: Session 2 :diamond:

6 sngs played = 1 2nd place

cost = $20.4

winnings = $8.1

profit = -$12.3

:diamond: Session 3 :diamond:

3 sngs played = no itm...

cost = $10.2

winnings = $0

profit = -$10.2

So yesterday I played 41 SNG and I am a bit down.

Current bankroll = $206

:club: Things I have learnt and need to learn :club:

:diamond: Learnt to fold AK QQ JJ to early tournament shoves, 3-4 bets. :diamond:
:diamond: Learnt to fold KK AA on flop to shoves or big reraises :diamond:
:diamond: Understood that attempts to bust or revenge a maniac is not good for your play :diamond:

:club: Still need to learn how to correctly play AK AQ pre-flop ant post-flop with about 15-20 big blinds. :club:
:club: Need to work on my bubble game (maybe tighter???) :club:
:club:P lay more games! :club:

So much for now!

I will be studying today because I have 2 exams later today, so will not be able to play poker much. But in the evening I will surely get some chips shuffling!
