Hi, I'm Chris I'm from Adelaide in South Australia. I have never done a blog before so hopefully this will be interesting and worthwhile reading. First of all I'm a uni student in my 5th year, first 4 years I did Nanotech with honours and now I am completing a bachelor of innovation and enterprise.

I started playing poker a few years ago with some mates but had no idea what I was doing until about a year ago when I signed up with this site. I started with the $50 capital playing SSS but go bored pretty quick so I switched to SnGs. After a couple of months I had a small downswing so I cashed out my winnings and took a break for a while. After a few months of not playing something inspired me to get back into it so I deposited $600 into Full Tilt (get the max deposit bonus). I then found the super turbos extremely soft and kind of addictive so I stuck with them and build my BR to about $5600. I cashed out $600 and since then I have been running terribly, down about $1200 (including about $500 rakeback so really I'm even worse than that). To add to that I am now bored (or frustrated) with super turbos, there are only so suckouts that I can handle per day. So, I've decided to cashout $3000 and start with regular turbo tournaments.

      Goals:

      - Reread all of the SnG articles
      - Play at least 200 games at each limit to ensure I am actually beating it
      - Buy HEM to track results
      - Use 60-80BI BRM for each limit
      - Post questionable hands in the judging section
      - Rebuild to $5000 and then $10,000
      - Mix in some MTTs, hopefully the $750K gauranteed

Finally, if the traffic isn't high enough I might even withdraw some of my BR and move it to Stars. Thanks for reading and I hopefully I will remember to update this regularly.

      -Chris

      Hey GunFlavoured,

Awesome to see another Aussie making a Blog.
Sorry to hear about your downswings.
      Goodluck with the re-building.

      Regards,

      Kyle

Ok, started slowly today playing $11+1 turbo SnGs. So far I have played 8 games, 6 ITM with a ROI of 85.6%. I figure if we extrapolate these results I should have a decent bankroll in no time! :P Should be able to identify some of my leaks soon after I have some data to work with.

Just a quick update. So far I have played 67 games ($11+1) and have the following stats:

      ROI: 21.9%
      ITM: 46.3% (13.4% 1st, 14.9% 2nd, 17.9% 3rd)

      Short term goals:
-Continue to beat this limit over a larger sample size
-Increase % of 1sts once ITM
-Move up to the next limit in a week or two

Ok, so I thought I might update my stats after a well deserved mini upswing. :D
      Current stats for this limit:

      Games 170
      %ITM: 44.1 (12.9, 12.3, 18.8)
      %ROI: 16.4

Looks like I seem to make the money often enough but can't seem to get first as often as I would like. If anyone has any pointers for play ITM then I would love to hear them. A lot of the time I find myselft in marginal situations in 3rd where I am a slight favourite but end up being sucked out ie Ax vs KQ or something similar.

Also, should I take much notice of the EV line for SnGs? I figure if my opponent is too tight and I push fairly wide it will always show -EV results when I get called. Don't think the results take into acount Villian's range.

      Lo gunflavoured,

Nice blog so far! I'll try to read every now and then :)

About the EV line (assuming you use HEM): the EV line is "real" in sng's, it has been tested over huge samplesizes.
IMO it doesn't mean you should take much notice to it, because you can still play perfect and your EV line can go down if you have to many setups and coolers.

      Nice blog Chris :)

I'm gonna tough out those FT hyper turbos for a while longer until I learn that they aren't as profitable as I think, or until I explode from frequent suckouts and bad beats from brain dead donkeys.

I finally lost my platinum status :( Oh well was always going to happen, should hopefully get it back in a few weeks. Anyway, had a nice little downswing after my upswing so as every bad poker player does I moved up a limit. I had about 60-70 BI so I'm not abusing BRM. The players still seem to be fairly horrible so I should be able to smash this limit soon.

      Few intersting hands:

This guy was completing SB with ATC:

Ok, so the last few days have been a bit up and down (in poker and life). I broke my right index finger the other night at cricket training which kinda sux since I have exams in the next couple of weeks. Oh well shit happens. Anyway, seems like the $22+2 limit is still fairly soft, either that or I am on a nice upswing over the first 150 games. Here are a few interesting hands I found.

Just thought I would post these hands so anyone worried about moving up limits will realise that this limit is still very beatable. Having said that, when does it start to get really tough? In particular on FT and Stars.

Anyway, here are the stats so far on the $22 limit.

      Games: 151
      ROI: 21.8
      ITM: 41.1 (17.9, 11.9, 11.3)

Good to see some other Aussies on here. I'm currently on the 22s and hoping to move up to the 33s soon so hopefully I can avoid you. Just hit a nice 15 BI downswing just to the weekend retards. 1st blind level 4-betting with j7 or limp pushing ATo, they always seem to hit though. And then when you do have a hand someone seems to be slowplaying AA. Oh well, thats poker.

Ok, so I decided to move to the next limit ($33+3) but I think I might spend some more time at the 22s :( Over 21 games I'm down $280. I know a few of the games I wasn't at my best but I think most of the money I lost was due to lost coinflips and other bad luck. For example, I have 57 in the BB, flop comes 5 7 K, SB bets I reraise, SB calls. Q on the turn, he checks, the rest of my stack goes in he calls with KQ. One thing I have noticed is that a lot more players will call cbets with air, hell they will call every street with air. Doesn't seem like the opponents are any better, just different. Once I get my bankroll up again I'll give it another go keeping this in mind. Examples of the kind of players at this level:

ICM trainer is a good start, I won't work perfectly though since it doesn't take into account fast changing blind levels + you need to adjust to your opponents. Generally, I found the lower limits too tight which is easy to exploit. Once you reach about $30s it gets tough. The 45 man STs are a lot softer ($14+1 is the highest limit). If you get the bankroll, the $69+6 seem to be the easiest out of all the limits (Token level). Overall I would avoid them if you don't like varience, 40+BI swings seem to be normal.

Ok after a few bad days I finally had a good one. I have decided to only play enough to maintain my iron man status until the end of the month while I have exams. Anyway, today I played 2 sets of 9. Decided to play 6x 22s and 3x 33s so I can slowly move up. Seemed to be ok, after the session I was $406 up, over $300 in the second 9. This also means I am now breakeven on the 33s after 28 games woo. I think I will stick to the 22s with a few 33s for a while longer until a) I have a decent bankroll and b) have the time to analyse my game carefully. Overall I'm just happy I managed to get a few BI back from the fish!

Oh and another thing, nothing new. Has anyone noticed that every player that whinges about being sucked out on all night is just a shit player. Its always interesting to note the players that abuse me and check their stats on sharkscope. This guy is pouring money into the 33s, can't wait to make it my home limit.

      Nice blog man!

I'm wondering how you play those SnGs? I mean do you start a set (what big) or play straight forward opening a new SnG every time you end/lost one?
