      Hi. Idiot question time.

      What hand range can we reasonably call from the BB with given an open raiser and a cold caller.

      I've run a simulation through the equilator using the following parameters:

      Player 1: 66+, A8s+, KTs+, QTs+, JTs, ATo+, KJo+
      Player 2: 66-22, A9s-A5s, KTs-K9s, Q9s+, J9s+, T8s+, 98s, 87s, 76s, 65s, 54s, KQo, QJo, JTo

      Assuming Player 2 is in the big blind and assuming Player 1 is raising a TAG range from MP2.

      I guess we can call with greater than 20% equity in this situation getting 5:1?

      If so, this is the range given by El Senor Equilator (I've summarised it but haven't excluded hands we should be 3betting with):

      99+, 32s+, K2o+, Q4o+, J5o+, T6o+, 950+, 84o+, 63o+, 52o+, 43o+

      Does the range look reasonable?

      What adjustments should I be making to my assumptions or ranges?

      Hi Waiboy,

      I often use the approx chart 9 for an idea about that. (Reduce the 3-betrange of course.

      I think "Player 2" is the colcallrange and not Hero? (You wrote that it's the BB who is Hero.)

      "99+, 32s+, K2o+, Q4o+, J5o+, T6o+, 950+, 84o+, 63o+, 52o+, 43o+"

      99+ doesn't fit in there. *g*
      You can't assume 20% as you are not allin yet after the preflop play. Our expert preflop article says that you need 70% from the average equity.
      HU = 100%/2 = 50% * 70% = 35% equity to call in the BB.
      3-way = 100%/3 = 33% * 70% = 23,1% equity.

      Out of that range I would remove hands that play very bad multiway and which are often dominated like K2o ,84o, 95o etc..

      Alright my range would be:

      22+, A2s+, K2s+, Q2s+, J6s+, T7s+, 97s+, 86s+, 75s+, 65s, 54s, A2o+, K8o+, Q9o+, J8o+, T9o, 98o, 87o
      The 3-bet range depends on the position the raise came from + his PFR of course (which has to be removed from above).

      Awesome, thanks ciRith. :f_cool:

      Yeah, the 99+ was a miss transfer from another document... I was in a hurry and realised after driving down the road. :f_confused:

      And you are correct: Player one = MP2 pre flop raiser, Player two = SB pre flop caller,
      BB = Hero

      I often find myself in this position and have been making some atrocious plays (I'm not even going to look back). I'm just transitioning to the approx charts and am starting to develop some game. In theory anyway.

      As an aside... the approx chart 3 betting chart and open raising chart differ from the Gold "Open Raising Chart 3.0". Plus the adjustments for playing A5s instead of A6s (eg in the ORC) haven't been made. Do you know if these adjustments are coming?

      At the moment I'm using the "ORC 3.0" 3 betting ranges and adjusted to open raising A5s from MP3.

      Hmm I don't know when the will be updated. But the mistake is so marginal that I don't think it matter much anyway.
