      Hi,

I love playing poker. However, I am constantly asking myself whether or not I like playing poker enough. There are some days that I don't really feel like playing poker. There are many days that I want to play but I only get in 1000 or less hands. I can comfortably put in 30k hands a month, but I would say that that is definately not enough if I want to do it as more than just a casual hobby.

My question goes out to all of those hardcore grinders out there. How do you grind 100k hands a month? Can anybody do 150k? I would be happy with 60k, but even that is tough for me. I tried playing 16 tables and it was a disaster. I can play 8 tables of PLO, but I have trouble puting in the necessary 40+ hours a week to get 60k+ hands a month.

What are your grinding strategies? Do you just do a few marathon sessions a month? Do you treat it like a regular 9-5 job, set your alarm, have your lunch hour, stop at 5? How do you play more than 8 tables? Is PLO a bad game to grind?

i dont have that much time for poker so when i have time i just play as many tables as i can handle until i get bored which is usually pretty quick and yeah i think i can get 100k hands a month.

So you don't have much time for poker but still you are able to get in 100k hands in a month!? How do you do this? I guess a better question I should have asked in the start of this thread would be, how many hours does it take you to get 100k hands? For me, if I play 8 tables and get in 400 hands per hour, it would take me 250 hours to play 100k hands. This is 8.3 hours of play a day for 30 days straight. Do you play everyday? I guess you must play more than 8 tables. How do you play more than 8 tables logistically? Unless you have four monitors or really big monitors you would need to stack them on top of each other. But when you stack them, I found that often times it will be your turn on multiple tables at the same time, which makes it very easy to time out.

FR SH or HU? Less players = more hand per hour.

I play about 70k-80k hands per month. I grind all night when there arnt any distarctions (And when all the american tards are playing). Simpley keep a stash of food by the computer so you can eat when you play. Taking a break for 5/10 minutes every 2hours for a smoke, coffee refill and toliet. Rinse repeat. :D

I play SH PLO. FR would be kind of boring for PLO and I'm not ready for HU.

I think this all night strategy might work for me. I like the idea of keeping breaks really short. I find that when I take a break, I end up watching a movie or something and my break becomes 5 hours and I end up just going to sleep. I also like the idea of eating while playing for this same reason. Will this mean I have to start smoking again?

      I'll try this tomorrow,...

Ok well SH is good =)

I was similar once, i'd play during the day and for what ever reasson my breaks would be to long, id end up wasting countless hours. Some days i'd wake up late and for what ever reasson would chill in the evening rather than grind. Then the switch to night came =)
As most normal people are asleep there is really nothing to do except grind. I'v gone from strugling to play 4-5hours to playing 9 or 10 hours 4days a week and a 5th day of 4/5 hours.
If you decide this is the way to go what i do in a typical week id Grind sunday evening/monday moarning until 6am, sleep at 8am wake up at 4/5pm, repeat, fall asleep later on tuesday like 10am maybe. Then come friday im nearly human again so i can go out with friends :D Saterday is the same. Then Sunday a new cycle begins. lol ;)

This is where MTT SnGs have an edge over NL CGs and even STT SnGs. The hourly 5minute break is the absolute nuts! A single MTT SnG lasts about an hour and a half if I go all the way to HU and I still managed to clock in over 1500 of them this month mostly 12tabling! But with the 5min break every hour I get the break from the pace, relax a bit and regain the drive for the next hour. Hoping to get 2k on the board in january when I'll have more time to try 16 and 20 tables at once. December is just too crazy a month to play poker too much :f_biggrin:

Its crazy how many hands some people can play.....cant figure out for the life of me how they do it, but i have seen players who consistently post over 300k hands per month.

The smoking comment was a joke. Not much good can come out of starting smoking again. Porn would definately be super counter-productive! lol

So I tried to muscle out a big grinding session,... I got in 2700 hands. Which is okay for me,... but I broke the rules and took a huge 5 hour break between two long sessions.

I think my biggest problem is if I leave the computer I'll quickly find other things to do, and it's easy not to return. So, after the weekend I am planning to try locking myself in the computer room (figuratively) for a pre-determined amount of time. Hopefully I can get in 4-5k hands.

mjkirwan1980: Who does 300k hands a month!? That's 10k hands a day every day! I would seriously like to know the logistics. That's even more than nanonoko puts in.

i was playing 24tables on pokerstars for a short period of time (1 hour lol). i played ~1,4-1,5k hands/hour.
6 hours grinding would be about 9k hands. and this was FR.

now imagine how much hands this would be SH :]

Sorry Jeero cant name names as I work for a poker room and its not my place to say :)

But I can confirm that there are some sick grinders out there who grind beyond what you think would be humanly possible.

I know that some people who play more than 8 tables usually stack their tables on top of each other. In this way you can play 24 tables even on one monitor. I tried this, but I found a couple of problems with this. You look at a hand and react once the table alerts you to. However, sometimes two or more tables will alert you at the same time,... in this way it's easy to lose track and time out on some tables. Do you people who play this many tables this way just have super fast reaction times, or is there a trick to it? Also, is there a better way to play 24 tables?

Not that I'm a heavy grinder but since I play on a 15inch lapotop I have to overlap. Sure some tables go at the same time but usually the decision is fairly straight forward on tables I play NL10-. No need for deep though but I do timeout on some tables freom time to time.

i put in 4k hands tonight...

took me around 8-9 hours but i was constantly changing number of tables

so, If you do the same every night, that is 120k hands per month.

      doable

      Good article about time management.

Really how you spend your time varies hugely from person to person people have different attention spans duties etc.

The trick is to find the right routine for you.
