Villain was a maniac and I figured the flat call would extract more value from his wider range. The 4-bet would have folded out the bulk of range there. I was very confident he would c-bet when I checked, so is this asking for trouble or is it OK?

      sure you played it fine.
aces are strong enough to just call pf and c/rai most of the boards.
what you can try to do next time is to 4-bet really small to 7-8, since then maniac would often call with wide range or even shove some hands
