That's been posted before. The answer is no. When someone gives you $50 for free and lets you play poker with it, it's impossible to end up in the red.

I thought that was obvious :P

Now knowing that money cannot be won playing online poker, here are three more nails in the online poker coffin so that this complete waste of your money, time and life can be buried:

      1. How do you know the other online poker players are real? You could be the only real player at the website table with the rest being software program players which would be programmed so that you could not possibly win even in the short-run.

      2. How do you know the cards are a randomly dealt deck? You would eventually lose your money anyway even with a randomly dealt deck. However some gambling houses do not want to wait that long to fleece you out of your money. The cards would be rigged in any which way to assure that you will lose quicker. They can easily rig any hand. For instance you could have four kings on the flop but a software program player gets a fourth ace at the river to beat you.

      What is poker?
      by Anonymous | Wed, 2007-05-30 19:09

A friend of mine made me aware of this newsgroup. All I can say is I weep for America and its future.

Countless posts about "I am going to turn pro" and worshiping of degenerate gamblers. Most poker players (not all) are out of shape, broke, and alone and desperate.

There is a reason it was/and is illegal in our country. Our great forefathers founded this country on the Puritan work ethic. You worked hard. You produced something. Now all you want to do is check, fold or raise. Wake up late. Smoke your pot. The only ones who played poker before were Texas Outlaws.

The money is going out of America to third world countries (for the online players).

The winnings of the few players are used for drugs and prostitutes.

      lol'd hard

Or learn poker and start squeezing.

im shocked that an anti-gambling website would say this.. :f_biggrin:

is this not like a penis enlargement website saying a pill CAN make it bigger?

I love that they write at the end "a casino manager says:" and they just write short lies.

This is like a anti-alcohol page saying that all the people who start drinking will eventually become alcoholics

      it has some right thoughts.
all poker sites and poker foruns make a great job creating a well sustained myth on how wonderfull a gambler's life is. So a typicall vulnerable college student (who cant wait to have his own money) makes a 1000$ profit in a random month will consider giving up college to play poker for a job (sometimes playing limits as low as 3$ sng, i've seen it!!!).
after that ex-studet concludes it is no stable life and decides to go back studying or getting a regular job (will happen 80% of the times), he is no longer ready to make a decent return to that life, for some reasons:
-you go to a job interview and you have no background. you have no experience in any job and it will be to late to learn anything.
-you will never be respected in the job market as an ex poker player
-after failling as a poker player thinking you were a great one will most likelly leave you addicted to the game and you will deposit every penny you can for the rest of your life in your fulltilt account, thinking "i made it wonce, i'll make it again"

in conclusion, living out of poker will always be an illusion to 90% of the people. who fails will ruin her/his life

i think it is a valid opinion, online poker is good only if you are just gambling and that is how EVERYONE should approach it at nl25 and nl50 and maybe nl100 at full tilt poker in the evenings (ET)

You have more chance of winning the State lottery... twice in a row!
Yes, but then I've already won the state lottery by being born able to read strategy articles..

I love the example the guy uses with a table full of $20 stacks where the average pot is $10.. that's like an NL100 table full of shortstacks.. sucks

as for that article I would have liked to see primary research with millions of hands used to back up his points. Rather than random figures pulled out of the air.

I dont think the author believes it ..
I mean.. come on.. we have to give him credit for what site is he writing for..
Its on anti-gambling site, so i dont really expect him to say.. hey.. if you learn a bit, you can make some money.. but you are gambler, so most probably after short term winning you ll just gamble it away on stakes higher than your bankroll suggests.
Better to tell to the gambler to stay away right away../not for us though, so I dont really like that guy anyway/

Cuz, lets face it.. Poker is still considered by wide population like way of gambling. Which we know its not and that skill is crucial to be succesful player.

If online poker is unbeatable how come I turned $25 into 7 times that amount in less than 2 months?

Put $25 into a savings account in a bank and see how much you earn on interest in 2 months , then you will realise poker is fun way to making money.
