Win the hand, Feed the baby!

So this here will be my little old blog. Don't worry - even if I lose the hand, my baby boy will still get fed.

My aim here is to share my experiences and learn as much as possible from your feedback along the way. Had a short stint playing poker a few years back but had to old off due to other commitments. Now the time is right so it's time to sit down, learn some, lose some but hopefully win some more!

Started a few days ago with $50 on FullTiltPoker, have made some progress so far with me sitting at around $90. Was going to employ the Short Stack Strategy to NL10, but the min buy-in is $3.50 :( So just been following it as closely as possible, getting used to the game again. I think once I'm more confident playing, I'll move my BR to Pokerstars...or possibly think about BSS!

Some hands from today. Have mixed feelings about all the hands, not particularly sure how well they were played even though the result was right for me.

This was a BB check so not thinking too much about it. I am wondering what I could of done to extract more money from the other player though.

      Finished the day $4 down.

Of the 3 hands that I lost, I shouldn't of been involved in 2 of them. Tiredness kills?? More like 'Tiredness makes you play silly hands and lose your money!'

      Lessons learnt

Busy few days with work, but managed to get a few hours in. Bit of a downswing, AA KK QQ we're not my friends, but AK had a real dislike for me. One hand that left scratching my head went something like this:

      Hero on BB with AKs
      Lots of 0.10 calls.
      Hero raise to 0.90.
      Lots of folds.
      Villain re-raises.
      Hero goes all-in.
      Villain shows K9o.
      Hero cheers!
      Flop shows 9 7 4.
      Turn 6
      River J "Ohhh....."

After a few hands, it became apparent said Villain was an absolute calling station and I managed to get back what I lost x3 putting my BR back to where we started for the day.

      So what have I learnt?

      - outs, odds, pot odds, implied odds...I  you
      - red wine and poker don't mix
      - red wine is tilt's best friend
      - I'm not durrr
      - don't play when baby wants to watch Teletubbies
      - play whilst wife+baby are sleeping
      - cash games and sng don't mix at my skill level
      - if I'm gonna employ the SSS strategy then I need to stick to it

Have decided to re-evaluate my goals after the past few days experiences.

Busy few days with work so haven't had that much time to play, but the times I have it's been pretty mixed. BR up and down, anything but AA getting blown away by whatever hand the villain calls.

      Today has started out well:

chanceybella calls $0.10, 2 folds, EinBeginner calls $0.10, riceftmccoy calls $0.10, Hero raises to $0.60, 2 folds, chanceybella calls $0.50, EinBeginner folds, riceftmccoy goes all-in $5.16, Hero goes all-in $2.75, chanceybella folds

      Flop: 2:diamond: J:heart: 10:diamond: ($9.36, 2 players, 2 all-in)

      Turn: 5:club: ($9.36, 2 players, 2 all-in)

      River: 4:spade: ($9.36, 2 players, 2 all-in)

      Final Pot: $9.36
riceftmccoy shows two pair, Jacks and Tens
      10:heart: J:diamond:
      Hero shows Ace King high
      K:diamond: A:spade:

      riceftmccoy wins $8.86 (net +$3.70)

      chanceybella lost $0.60
      EinBeginner lost $0.10
      Hero lost $3.35

I'm noticing a lot of this at NL10 on Full Tilt. Is it the same everywhere? I'm guessing it will happen less at higher levels?

You bet $0.50 in a 2 dollar pot. That my friend is not good. If you're playing SSS, IMO if you have $2.55 in a $2 pot you should get it in there with the opponents having a possible flushdraw. You don't want them drawing cheaply.

And until' like maybe NL50 you'll keep seeing people do silly things.

Yeah, absolutely! Was playing with my head in the clouds. 'WOOOR I've got a pair Kings and an Ace, invincibleeeeeeeeeee' Thanks for the feedback.

Slowly getting my head round the maths and starting to handle the badbeats!

Long time no post. Sickness, work, travelling, lazyness, etc. So just starting to really get playing again.

BR been up and down like elevator since about a week ago. Went up over $100 in a short time, but then plunged down even quicker.

My decision making has been shocking past few days, which has really cost me. Tilt has been holding my hand and I've been unable to let go.

Slowly starting to build the BR up again, and also clear the new FT bonus. Trying my best to stick to SSS, but finding a slight tweak to the starting hands is working out for me - as long as I then don't break those rules.

Moved to Rush poker rather than normal ring, as time has been limited. So far so good, keep it up!

Got some hands from today's session, feedback welcome!

      ## Was this a stupid All-in? I figured he'd just call my raise if he had AK and he called my raise preflop after limping. Risky I guess, but just seemed right.
