Final Pot: $11.30

When the flop checked around, I figured my King was likely good. I bet pot because of the straight draw. Was this OK, or should I have bet 1/2 pot or not at all? Should I have given up on the hand after the call? I figure as played, I had to call the river raise...I hate the big blind.

Hand 2:
No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (7 handed)

CO ($15)
Button ($21.75)
SB ($23.75)

Hero checks, MP2 checks, CO checks, Button checks.

Turn: ($1.10) 5:club: [color:#0000FF](4 players)
[color:#CC3333]Hero bets $1, [color:#CC3333]MP2 raises to $2, CO folds, Button folds, Hero calls $1.

River: ($5.10) 9:heart: [color:#0000FF](2 players)
Hero checks, [color:#CC3333]MP2 bets $1.75, Hero calls $1.75.

Final Pot: $8.60

I didn't realize the game was down to 7-handed when I posted the big blind (2 were sitting out.) Anyway, check/fold the flop obviously. On the turn I hit two pair, but a possible flush completed...on the other hand, I have the 2nd nut draw. Turn and river play OK? Is there a better line? Should I have just continued with check/fold? Did I mention that I hate the big blind?

Thanks,
Kknight

Get used to check/folding your top pair, weak kicker out of position no matter what your stack is (you can call small bets if the odds are good). Hand 1 was a disaster but your play in hand 2 is fine.

Hi Howard,

Thanks for your reply. On hand 1, I did play check/fold on the flop...should I not even take a shot on the turn? I would have expected a bet on the flop from any other King. I agree that the hand was a disaster...but it was ridiculous what I turned out to be up against. It was a hand I'd have never put the button on...

Thanks again,
Kknight

Hi Kknight,

play check/fold on all streets unless you have Top Pair with King or Ace as Kicker after a freeplay from the Big Blind. But consider to even play check/fold with that made hand or maybe a better hand like Two Pair as well on Flop and Turn if the action and board indicates that you are beaten. :)

So keep it up posting your hands and if you like and can join my SSS coaching on saturday from 8 pm GMT +1 (2 pm et)

And thanks for your feeback to my coaching. If you like to give more feedback, feel free to do so: http://www.pokerstrategy.org.uk/wbb_en/thread.php?threadid=7463 :)

Good luck on the tables

Hi Kknight!

Hand 1) check/fold all streets. Your kicker is too weak. According to the short stack strategy you should only play top pair with a king or ace kicker. Please stick to this rule.

Hand 2) I think you can push here on the turn. Top two pair plus 2nd nutflushdraw is a really strong hand -> put it in :D

Good luck at the tables!

To clarify, do you mean to re-raise all-in AFTER his raise, or just push all-in immediately?

No, I meant reraising all-in after his raise.

Good luck at the tables!
