      i put him on a top pair with flush draw, which i have beat. i had to re-raise to test his strength, and thought the pot odds were good to call.

      It's sorta hard to discuss those hands since we can't see the suits.

      Your play is likely fine without reads, tho keep in mind that a lot of flushdraws are actually flipping with you or close to it if they have overcards to your 99, so if he can't check/minraise you with stuff like 8x you're actually a dog against his range, meaning against some players like tight passive fish it can become a clear fold.
