I'm seriously considering relocating to Gibraltar, already done a few applications and seeing where they'll lead.

How's life there? Are the cost bearable or they'll skin me for a bed?

I've had a look on a few letting sites and it looks like with £6/700 is possible to get a decent apartment, are these the average prices for a 1 bedroom flat?

And how much costs the life?

I'm not asking if there's life as I've already received direct reports on that which presented me the place as being very enjoyable :f_cool:

      Hey degre,

Not much Gibraltarians here on the forums or so it seems ;) Well, it is a small country.
How is life here? I personally love it. You have a lot of pubs, restaurants, a casino, sunsets, history, small cinema and monkeys. But that is very much a matter of taste, isn't it?
Also, Gibraltar is very urban but rather small. You have a lot of traffic and annoying scooters buzzing through the street.
At night everything is nice and quiet though.

What sticks out for me is that I feel safe here. A lot of police presence on the street, but in the good way ;)

Shopping is nice. A lot of smaller shops but you get everything here. Big supermarket (a Morrisons) and the Spanish Malaga is just 90 minutes away. There you'll find everything, from Swedish furniture stores to electronic temples.

      Rent.
Depends very much on your own lifestyle I would say.

Rents very much differ from building to building and standards of course.
You should be able to get a studio apartment for £450 to £650 (£450 = very hard to find).

The cheapest one bedroom apartment I heard of was £600, but that is below the average.
Better check the internet for properties in Gibraltar and you will get an idea about the rent.
Apropos internet: I pay for decent DSL connection (2000) around £55.

      Cost of living
Some stuff seem more expensive to me, but a packet of pasta goes from £0.99 to the better ones for the price of £2.35. Not much difference there.
Would actually be interesting. Maybe I bring some receipts from the supermarket and we can compare ;)

If you are located in the UK just book a flight and come over to check the place out. Flights go directly from London and back. If you consider relocating definitely do that first!

      Further questions? Shoot!

      But pretty sweet :f_biggrin:

I actually wouldn't say it is costly per se.
An very important fact I forgot to mention when speaking of rents: most apartments are fully furnished and come with everything, from cutlery over toaster and microwave, up to bed sheets and towels. I actually had to ask the landlord to take stuff out of it as it was just too much, as I like the spartan lifestyle.

But I am sure not sweet-talking it. Rents seem higher to me as I am used to, but I guess they are the same as in central Paris, London or Munich for example. But on the other hand, I am not a realtor.
Instead of wild big city nights you have surfing, the Atlantic and Mediterranean sea, boat tours, late night poker at the casino and a rather relaxed lifestyle.

Check out this blog entry of one of our Pokerflat winners. He posted some pictures of the apartment they life in: http://pokerflat.pokerstrategy.com/You_can%27t_wrong_..._with_Gibraltar

I am sorry that the latest entries are in German, but we are working on giving some sort of an English summary of it soon.

Our own Lutz posted some pictures in the Confidential blog.

Hi Michael, thanks for the reply!

Sounds interesting, and honestly I wont mind a warmer place with sea and surf ^_^

I'll have a look at the links you posted.

      Just once thing:

      No. No way.

You mention getting a studio for 450£ a month, in London with those money at best you get an en-suite room. I'm actually paying slightly more then that (including bills) for a room in a shared flat without living room.

You might find some around that price, but surely you have to move out quite a bit. So rent would actually work out cheaper for me :f_biggrin:

      Hey degre,

but the £450 wouldn't be Buckingham Palace style, if you know what I mean and could be hard to find. Best to get in contact with a realtor and tell them what you are looking for :)

I'll see to it IF it comes the time, for the moment I'm still going through interviews and there's nothing sure at the horizon.

Thanks again for the infos ^_^

Came across that site and to be fair I still think that is quite cheap compared to London or Florence, now I just need to land a job there, first interview wasn't positive, more CVs outgoing :f_grin:

      My opinion from Gib.

      Good Stuff:

      - SUN
      - Casino
      - SUN
      - Sea
      - SUN
      - Safe Place
      - SUN
      - Ocean Village (Nice Bars)

      Bad Stuff:

      - I think it is really expensive here.
      - I think many guys in Gib live the Spanish attitude "i don't care for anything"
      - Internet is very slow and gets regularly disconnects.
      - The centre of life in Gib is very small. (ok, i'm used to bigger cities, where i came from)

Well, for work would make sense... but if you just want to relocate to the sun move to Malaga, Marbella or any of the town in between, they're just down the road from Gibraltar, are nicer and life costs a half.
