Should I call there preflop? My original thought was, if CO called, I'd call. I still called though, for some reason. I was pretty sure he had a monster hand and if I flopped my 7 I'd stack him. Problem is he was pretty shortstacked.

Hand converted with online PokerStrategy.com hand converter:

      Hand abspielen

      $0.02/$0.05 No-Limit Hold'em (9 handed)

      Known players:
      BB:
      $2.60
      UTG1:
      $5.00
      UTG2:
      $2.72
      MP1:
      $4.95
      MP2:
      $2.79
      MP3:
      $8.65
      CO:
      $4.49
      BU:
      $1.57
      SB (Hero):
      $14.76

Preflop: Hero is SB with 7, 7.
5 folds, CO raises to $0.10, BU folds, Hero calls $0.08, BB raises to $0.40, CO folds, Hero calls $0.30.

      Flop: ($0.9) 6, 5, K (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets $0.90, Hero folds, BB gets uncalled bet back.

      Final Pot: $0.9.

      Hey!

Remember the "Call 20" rule? In order to call a bet or raise with the purpose of set mining, the remaining effective stacks must be 20x the bet or raise.

In this spot, the remaining stack would be $2,20 and his raise was $0,32.
The remaining stack is less than 7x his raise and so we should be folding =)

      Cheers!

Yeah, the thing is I was absolutely sure I'd stack him if I hit. I thought Call 20 should be applied only when you're not sure you're stacking your opponent?

His raise was still way too big, I guess you're right anways. Thanks. :)

You can never be sure you'll stack him =)

BUT even if you COULD be sure: like I said, you have less than 7x his raise, but you only hit a set 1 out of ~8 - 9 times. Even then it's not profitable =)

      Cheers!
