River seems totally fine by me as he may have worse Ax hands and you beat even all two pair combos on river. He may have sets, but that's not everything.
And I think betting flop and turn is fine, he's playing loose enough to vbet against him.

He will do that a lot with worse Ax. I doubt you can check top two there or fold after such a small shove. Wp imo!

so i played it well then?
shame he turned over 98s to win with the straight then.
that was just a spot of bad luck???

Yes, he drew out on you without having the proper pot odds. This will happen many times. You need to make sure you don't pay off every time opponents hit (when draw is super obvious) and that they never get the correct odds to chase their draw.

      Good luck!

I think it was not so bad for him to call you there as he may give rather good implied odds if you have an A as you will pay him off a lot, so it's just bad for you he hit and he didn't have any other (worse) hand of his range.

      Hi,

Just bet slightly more on flop/turn so that you can value-shove the river for ~2/3 pot if needed. Otherwise nice hand, I'm also bet bet jamming on that river card without thinking twice about it, bad passive players will call down with too many top pairs to pass that up.

      Hope it helps.
