Az eredeti jelentésben a cold deck<\/a> (hideg pakli) csaló szándékkal csak látszólag véletlenszerűen kevert kártyapaklit jelöl, ami például az egyik játékost (az áldozatot) nagyon erős kézzel ajándékozza meg, egy másik játékos számára azonban, aki együtt dolgozik a kártyaosztóval, még erősebb kezet hoz, aminek eredményeként az első játékos nagy mennyiségű pénzt veszít. A cold deck<\/a> szintén lehet egy hosszabb időn keresztül csaló szándékkal hibásan kevert kártyapakli is, ami azt eredményezi, hogy a játékos idővel elveszti a pénzét, mert egyszerűen nincsen esélye arra, hogy szembeszálljon a kiosztott kártyahelyzettel szemben. <\/p>

Használatos ez a fogalom az olyan, egy játékkörben használt kártyapakli megjelölésérre is, ami több játékosnak átlagon felüli kezet ajándékoz. Ha pl. a Texas Hold'em-ben három játékos egyenként egy ász párt, egy király párt és egy királynő párt kap, és a harmadik játékos esetleg még a harmadik királynőt is eltalálja az egyik közös kártyával, akkor hideg pakliról beszélünk. Mint az első jelentésnél is a cold deck<\/a> jelentheti, azt is, hogy hosszabb időn keresztül gyakran olyan helyzetek, amikben az egyik játékos ugyan erős kezet kap, viszont mindig olyan másik játékossal kerül szembe, aki még erősebb kezet talál el.<\/p>
