A neve mindig feltűnést kelt, azonban tényleg ez az igazi neve. A név a német Nurmacherből jött, mivel ősei feltételezhetően arany és ezüst érméket gyártottak. Miután kivándoroltak Amerikába ott angolosították a nevet Moneymakerre. (<\/span>Érdekesség, hogy egyik legjobb barátját pedig David Gamble-nek hívják.)<\/em><\/p>

A kártyajátékok iránti szenvedélye már egészen korán, gyerekkorában kezdődött. Az egész családja kedvelte a szerencsejátékokat, így nagyon sokat játszottak otthon. A nagymamájával rengeteget bridzsezett, apjával pedig black jackezett.<\/p>

Idősebb korában már nem csak családi körben játszott, szívesen járt kaszinókba, azonban rengeteg pénzt veszített sportfogadásokon és blackjacken. Olyan játékot keresett, ahol nem csak a szerencse számít és lényegében tanulni is lehet, így jutott el a pókerig. Miután aztán 2000-ben látta a Pókerarcok (Rounders)<\/em> című filmet, teljes elkötelezettje lett ennek a játéknak. Rengeteget játszott online és 2003-ra már viszonylag ismert lett a neve online körökben.<\/p>

\"\"A Tennessee Egyetemre<\/em> járt és ott végzett könyvelőként és miután az iskolát elvégezte, ebben a szakmában is helyezkedett el. Könyvelőként dolgozott akkor is, amikor megtörtént a pillanat, ami aztán egész életére befolyással lett: a PokerStars online platformján megnyert egy 39$-os előselejtezőt a 2003-as WSOP-ra.<\/em>
Ekkor 18 játékost utasított maga mögé. Csupán szórakozásból nevezett, nem is gondolta, hogy sikerülhet neki, ám mégis sikerült nyernie és egyszerre csak ott találta magát a WSOP középső sattelite-jében <\/span>Itt már több ellenfelet, 60 játékost kellett legyűrnie, hogy győzhessen és ez is sikerült neki. Minden akadályt sikerrel vett, így az elsőre befektetett 39$-ból egészen a Las Vegas Binion's Horseshoe<\/em> kaszinóig jutott és mindjárt az első napot sikerült 60.000 zsetonnal zárnia.<\/p>

A Main Event 3. napján az ESPN televíziós asztalhoz került és olyan jól ismert játékosokkal kellett együtt játszania, mint Paul Darden, Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer és Johnny Chan<\/em>. Szembe kellett néznie a ténnyel, hogy itt ő bizony amatőrnek számít.<\/p>

Ezt egy alkalommal sikerült is alaposan bebizonyítania:

Moneymaker úgy érezte, hogy ezt az imázst és azt hogy senki nem ismeri és nem tartja igazi ellenfélnek, a maga javára tudja fordítani és így is tett. Egészen a döntő asztalig jutott, ahol emlékezetes partit játszott Sam Farha-val.<\/p>

Az itteni blöffje az egyik legemlékezetesebb pillanata életében:<\/em><\/p>

A győzelmet egy flopolt pár hozta meg számára, ami később fullá erősödött, szemben Farha <\/span>J párjával. Győzelme 2,5 millió dollárt jelentett számára és nevét örökre beírta a póker történelmébe.<\/em><\/p>

A WSOP megnyerése után nyereménye 20%-át apjának adta, másik 20-at pedig a barátai között osztott szét. Munkáját otthagyta és <\/span>a PokerStars hivatalos játékosa lett. Elmondása szerint a WSOP-n elindul amíg csak tud, de biztos abban, hogy kétszer megnyerni a Main Event-et nem fog sikerülni neki.<\/p>

Érdekessége még a döntő partinak, hogy a chiphátrányban a heads-upba kerülő Farha visszautasította Moneymaker ajánlatát az osztozkodást illetően, mondván, hogy bármikor, bármilyen hátrányból legyőz egy játékost, akinek ez az első versenye és internetről jutott be 40$-ból. Azonban nem így történt, Moneymaker megnyerte a 2003-as WSOP Main Eventjét. Farha kicsit kiköszörülte a csorbát és öniróniáról tett tanúbizonyságot ezzel a jelentettel a Lucky You című filmben. A 2003-as heads-upjának történetét ismerők remekül szórakoztak rajta, egyesek a film egyetlen érdemi részének tartják (a filmről készült kritikánkat itt olvashatjátok<\/a>).<\/em>

A 2004-es WSOP-n a 10. helyet szerezte az $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha versenyen<\/em>, valamint nem sokkal később <\/span>harmadik lett a Jack Binion Mid-America Poker Classic $300 Pot Limit Hold'em versenyén<\/em>.
A 2003-as vesrseny óta azonban igazán nagy eredményeket nem tudhat magáénak, bár rengeteg versenyen elindult, pl. World Poker Finals at Foxwoods, the WPT Invitationals, PokerStars Caribbean Poker Adventure, Bay 101 Shooting Stars tournament, <\/span>European Poker Tour Monte Carlo.

Freeroll bajnokság volt, több nagy nyereménnyel, pl. az első 27 játékos egy hetes bahamai úton vehetett részt. Itt rendezték meg a döntőt, ahol Moneymaker tanácsot adhatott a játékosoknak.
