Per un determinato numero di outs, o carte utili, che completano una drawing hand si ha sempre una probabilità ben definita che uno degli outs venga distribuito con la carta o le carte successive. Questa probabilità viene trascritta in genere sotto forma di odds<\/a>, ovvero come odds<\/a> against, la probabilità che un progetto non si completa. <\/p>

Odds<\/a> against = eventi sfavorevoli : eventi favorevoli<\/em><\/p>

Per la prossima carta da distribuire ciò significherebbe:
<\/em><\/p>

Odds<\/a> against = carte non favorevoli : carte favorevoli
<\/em>
oppure<\/p>

Odds<\/a> against = (carte non note - Outs) : Outs<\/em><\/p>

Il giocatore ha un progetto di colore (cuori). Esistono altre nove carte di colore nel mazzo che gli danno nove outs. Esistono cinque carte delle quali il giocatore sa che non possono essere più distribuite, le due nella sua mano di partenza e le tre carte al flop<\/a>. Dal momento<\/a> che un mazzo di carte consiste in 52 carte, al turn possono arrivare 52-5 = 47 carte possibili. 47-9 = 38 sono carte senza valore per lui, nove lo aiutano. Pertanto, gli odds<\/a> against ovvero le possibilità che un giocatore non peschi un altro cuori al turn sono:<\/p>

Odds<\/a> against = 38:9 = 4,2:1
<\/em>
Detto in un altro modo: nel 19% dei casi il giocatore forma un colore al turn. Nel 35% dei casi, invece, completa il suo colore al turn oppure al river. Gli odds<\/a> against sono pari a 1,9:1.<\/p>
