Un grande genio del poker<\/figcaption><\/figure>

Se nel gioco del calcio Diego Maradona<\/strong> è generalmente indicato come il più grande campione d'ogni tempo, nel poker lo stesso onore è quasi universalmente riconosciuto al leggendario Stu Ungar<\/strong>, l'uomo che - per la propria abilità - era stato bannato dalle partite di gin <\/strong>e dai tavoli di blackjack <\/strong>di mezza America<\/strong>.<\/p>

Ma come faceva questa mente straordinaria ad aver ragione di un gioco - il blackjack - in cui la matematica <\/strong>condanna senza appelli il giocatore <\/strong>in favore del banco<\/strong>?<\/p>

A spiegarlo è Mike Sexton<\/strong>, che - forte della grande amicizia <\/strong>con Ungar - racconta ciò che ha visto coi propri occhi. Compreso il metodo <\/strong>che il prodigio del poker utilizzava per essere così infallibile nel conto delle carte.<\/p>

\"Stu è stato il più forte giocatore, e lo sarebbe anche oggi, soprattutto grazie alla sua memoria fotografica prodigiosa. Nei casinò non lo facevano giocare, quindi doveva arrangiarsi nei bar e nei coffee shop\".<\/em><\/p>

Come quello di Bob Stupak<\/strong>, dove un giorno Stu chiede a Mike di accompagnarlo per poter giocare. \"Non appena Stupak l'ha visto, ha cominciato a ingiallire dalla paura, tanto che Stu gli ha dovuto promettere che avrebbe puntato non più di due chips alla volta\".<\/em><\/p>

Anche così, però, l'esperto Stupak non accetta<\/strong> di farlo giocare. Gli propone, invece, una sfida<\/strong>, scommettendo $10.000 che Ungar non sarebbe stato in grado di indovinare l'ultima carta <\/strong>di un mazzo da 52.<\/p>

\"Stupak cominciò a girare le carte rapidamente, finché arrivò all'ultima. E Stu disse senza indugi che era un dieci di quadri. Quando Stupak girò il dieci di quadri diventò pazzo, e rinnovò la promessa che non lo avrebbe mai fatto giocare a blackjack nel suo locale<\/em>\".<\/p>

Ma come faceva a ricordare 52 carte con tanta facilità<\/strong>? \"Mi confidò di avere un metodo facile facile: lui assegnava un punteggio a ogni carta, a partire dall'asso di cuori - che valeva 1 - fino a giungere al kappa di picche, che quindi valeva 52\".<\/em><\/p>

Al campione a questo punto non serviva altro che sapere il totale<\/strong> delle 52 carte, ovvero 1378<\/strong>. E, una volta sommato 1340 <\/strong>sul mazzo di Stupak, pensare a quale carta avesse valore 38<\/strong>, ovvero il \"\". Facile? Provate...
