Free bets to be had on the Open Championship

Golf’s biggest names are in town for this year’s Open Championship and the sportsbooks are ready.

Having seen surprising results at the first two majors of the year so far, we move onto the four-day UK event this week. Royal Birkdale is the host course for the 146th staging of the Open Championship, Golf’s third major of the year. 

The US Masters in May was won by Sergio Garcia of Spain, whose fans have seemingly been waiting years for him deliver on his promise. This was followed a month later by US star Brooks Koepka’s claiming of the US Open, his first ever major. Both will be appearing at Royal Birkdale this Thursday, its first time playing host in nine years.

Neither player is fancied to win the Claret Jug by the bookmakers, however, as William Hill have posted a 33/1 price on Koepka and 16/1 for Garcia, who has come close here before. Representing the UK, Justin Rose is a best price of 22/1 with Ladbrokes, while Rory McIlroy is available at 20/1 with TitanBet. Elsewhere, world number two, Hideki Matsuyama is a very reasonable 22/1.

At the top of the betting, there is yet to be a clear favourite emerge as Jordan Spieth, who this week stated he believes this to be the easiest major in the calendar to win, Dustin Johnson, who has missed his last two tournament cuts, and Rickie Fowler all share odds of 16/1, swiftly followed by the exciting John Rahm at 18/1, as he continues to rise up the rankings and catch the eye.
