Daily Rewind - Ivey's Big Win, WPT Marrakech and the European Poker Awards

Ivey Crushes for 8 Million
The action seems to have been really be hotting up in Macau recently, with famous faces and million dollar swings being a daily occurrence. First we heard rumours Guy Laliberté was flying over to join the high stakes cash game, then Phil Ivey emerged from hiding to play in the APPT in Macau event, before Andrew Robl suffered a rollercoaster day at the felt winning then losing back $2 million.
Today it’s emerged that Phil Ivey’s stay in Macau hasn’t been cut short just because he busted out of the APPT tournament yesterday. In a fairly vague post on 2+2 “Chinamaniac” claimed: “Ivey just crushed some Australian business man for 8 million HULHE.”
The story was later “confirmed” by forum poster “A_C_Slater” who wrote: “Confirmed. My friend Phuong Nguyen is friends with said Australian businessman. He told me about this one hand where AB raises Button and Ivey 3bets, AB calls.”
WPT Marrakech
You can’t keep a good man down, which is why Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier has bounced back from his defeat at the hands of Lex “Razi” Veldhuis to sit amongst the chip leaders at the WPT event in Marrakech. The Frenchman currently has 293,500 chips and sits in 5th place with just 50 players left.
Also running well through Day 2 was Jonathan Duhamel who ended the day with 364,500 chips, which was good enough for 3rd place on the leaderboard. The play resumes today when the field will play down to the final few tables.
Bluff European Poker Awards
Bluff Magazine has just announced its annual European Poker Awards. The event will take place on January 25th, 2012 at the Aviation Club in Paris.
As ever the panel of industry experts will vote on who they think is the most deserving of an award in categories such as Rookie of the Year, Internet Player of the Year and Best Poker Event of the Year.
High Stakes Corner
"Ben86" has enjoyed the biggest upswing of the last 24 hours, raking in $39,751 in winnings from just 733 hands. Also running well at the virtual tables was "roi kin23" who won $32,093.
Not faring so well at the tables has been "PauleAdler" and "MrSmits" who each lost $58,247 and $49,991 respectively.
