Dop3Ad1c7 wins $774 and a new DVD player!

He participated in an offline tournament in Canada and finished fifth. After this success we asked him some questions

PokerStrategy: Congratulations Dop3Ad1c7 for winning $774 and a DVD player! Could you please introduce yourself?
Dop3Ad1c7: My name is Scott Thompson. I'm from Canada, 20 years old and started playing poker about a year ago.

PokerStrategy: How did you get this nickname? We would like to know every detail! 😉
Dop3Ad1c7: My nickname came from a couple friends online one day. I used to play Counter-Strike, where my nickname was D0p3. Then for some reason one day I was talking to them on Ventrillo and I couldn't stop laughing. So they all thought I was stoned and called me a Dope addict. So I changed my name to D0p3Ad1c7 and just used it since then.

PokerStrategy: Ok. We believe you. How long have you been a member of PokerStrategy?
Dop3Ad1c7: I've been a member of PokerStrategy, for.... Uhhh... *checks site for join date* 09.06.2007... 🙂

PokerStrategy: That is not a long time. But you were already successful in a tournament. Which tournament did you play?
Dop3Ad1c7: I played a live tournament, $60 entry, a 'three' day tournament (two qualifiers then the main tournament), where top 30 from day 1 and top 30 from day 2 played on day 3. I had 4K chips in day 1, while blinds were 1K-2K and only 4 people needed to be knocked out to advance. I picked up TT got called three ways and it held up. Very next hand after that got AK UTG get called by the BB, and I doubled up again, then coasted the last 10 min or so. I think they could have done it better, because they just stopped us at 30, so there was no real incentive to do anything more than survive. Everyone started with the same chips going into day 3.

PokerStrategy: That's a very untypical tournament structure. Anyway: You finished fifth, won $774 and a DVD player. How does it feel?
Dop3Ad1c7: I felt that I played well, and got my money in with the best hand more than enough to come out ahead 🙂

PokerStrategy: If you say you played it well and got the money in when you had the best hand: What where the decisive hands in this tournament?
Dop3Ad1c7: Well, I started out really bad. It was the second hand. I got QQ UTG and raised to 200 (Blinds 25-25, with a starting stack of 10K). I got called by the CO and the SB. Flop came T 6 2. SB bet out 400 and I raised to 1200, CO folded and the SB called. Turn: J. He bets 500, I called. River: A. He bets 500, I fold. He shows 62. I said: "Nice hand"... I guess...and moved on 😛

PokerStrategy: That's an interesting play 😉 What else happened?
Dop3Ad1c7: Another hand was: Blinds were 1000 2000 and I was in the SB with TT and about 15K chips left. MP raiseds to 4K and BU moved allin for 5.5K. I was thinking about what to do but the BB moved all-in as well, so I quickly mucked my hand. MP folded, BU flipped over 88 and the BB showed KK. Flop: T27 I would have almost tripled up, but in all fairness I made the right play at the time, so I cannot regret it 🙂

PokerStrategy: You are right. That was definitely the correct play. Not only because of this hand you reached the final table. Did you have a special tactic on the final table?
Dop3Ad1c7: Getting to the final table was a mess. It honestly took 20 - 30 hands and 17 all-in's later the bubble finally was over so that we were nine handed to start the final table. When we started, I got lucky and drew seat nine, the button :D... So I had plenty of time, but not alot of chips to play with (18K, blinds 5K-10K). My thought going into the final table was to just play my best and get my money in good 🙂

PokerStrategy: Seems like you were pretty shortstacked at that point. How did you get knocked out?
Dop3Ad1c7: My final hand. Heh, Live poker is rigged! Let's start with that. 😀 I had 22K in chips, with blinds being 10K - 20K. I picked up 33 on the Button, pushed allin and got called by the BB, which I knew was coming no matter what two cards. He showed 52. I was like: "Oh yeah! Good shape!. Flop came: 299. Good flop, good flop. Turn: J. Good turn, good turn. River: J! 5 high takes down the pot!!! I cannot blame the guy because it was 2K more into a ~50K pot. But still: Being beat by 5 high just hurts sometimes, you know? 🙂
