More streamers leave their sponsors (or join partypoker)

It's been a busy week for Twitch streamers as two big names leave their sponsor and two big names sign for partypoker (with more to come).

2019 is fast becoming a benchmark year for the Twitch streaming scene as we have had some major stories involving streamer sponsorship deals. Jaime Staples and Jeff Gross left PokerStars, then partypoker sponsored the Thirst Lounge (curiously using a picture with Gross in it to announce it).

This week another major PokerStars streamer parted ways with the company. Kevin Martin had been with PokerStars for three years and also won Big Brother while he was with them, but he chose not to renew his contract with them:

He wasn't the only streamer to part ways with a sponsor this week. Alan Widmann announced he was leaving Unibet Poker. Widmann is just as well known for streaming games like Fortnite and World of Warcraft as he is for streaming poker:

That was far from the last story on the subject this week, as partypoker announced a Team Online, which will feature a number of streamers. The first of which is none other than Matt Staples - younger brother of Jaime and who has become a very successful streamer in his own right.

And he was soon joined by Hristivoje 'ALLinPav' Pavlovic:

If Team Online sounds familiar, that is what PokerStars called their own first group of sponsored players famous for online poker rather than live, way before Twitch was a thing in this game. It follows a trend of partypoker branding a lot of their products similarly to PokerStars (Spins instead of Spin & Go, Diamond Club Elite instead of SuperNova Elite, and the sponsorship of several former PokerStars Pros). It hardly seems speculation at this point to suggest that partypoker look set to recruit some former PokerStars streamers to broadcast for them on Twitch.

partypoker managing director, Tom Waters said:

We have been a bit behind the curve when it comes to streaming, but we are hoping to make up for lost time by compiling an elite team that will be able to stream entertaining and engaging content 24/7. We are delighted to have Matt join the team and will be able to announce some more exciting additions to Team Online in the coming days.

Finally, PokerStars are still very much behind their biggest Twitch star Lex Veldhuis and have just announced a special live event for his fans. 'Lex Live' takes place in Belgium from March 27 with a €225 Main Event, €100,000 guarantee and satellites starting this weekend on PokerStars.
