Mustapha Kanit wins the Sunday Million

Is "lasagnaammm" the best overall tournament player in poker right now?

Mustapha "lasagnaammm" Kanit was the very first player picked in the Global Poker League draft, and for good reason, he may be the most in-form player of the last 12 months.

Not a huge name before last year, he has already jumped into Italy's all-time number one spot in live tournaments with a string of big results including three EPT High Roller titles in Dublin, Barcelona and Monte Carlo. His live tournament cashes stand at $4,254,239.

He is just as prolific online. He has over $4 million in online cashes, including the FTOPS Main Event title for $239,400, a SCOOP High Roller title for $376,920 and the SCOOP High Main Event for $1,304,720.

Just last week he won the PokerStars Sunday SuperSonic for $48,000 and yesterday he added to his impressive resume with the iconic Sunday Million title for $177,230.

He defeated a field of 5,717 to take down the title, no deals were made at the final table.

While all the talk right now might be on 21-year-old Dzmitry Urbanovic's breakout year in the live arena, it seems pretty clear that 24-year-old Mustapha Kanit is currently the best tournament player across both live and online poker.

The article seems over results oriented. What does 'on form' mean in tournament poker - winning 60% of flips?

That being said, this guy can clearly play. I just think its a bit of a stretch to say that this string of results make him beyond doubt the best online and live poker player in the world. Its difficult to say for sure who that is due to the insane variance in tournaments. Perhaps a poll of elite winning tournament players would give some pointers.

Mustapha Kanit maybe the best overall on-line MTT and live tournament player right now. I am sure some new name will over shadow him alone the way.
