Over $500k in freerolls for players affected by DDoS attacks

A gesture of goodwill by PokerStars will see five $100,000 WCOOP freerolls for players caught up in the DDoS attacks earlier this month.

It's been a month to forget for online poker after America's Cardroom, partypoker and PokerStars have been hit by multiple Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, just a few weeks ahead of major festivals like PowerFest and WCOOP.

As a gesture of goodwill, PokerStars have announced over $500,000 of freerolls for the players affected by the attacks. That includes five daily $100,000 freerolls between August 22 and August 26 in the global client, and €30,000 in freerolls across the ringfenced European clients. You can find them in the client by typing 'Players Freerolls' in the search bar.

The freerolls are only open to players who impacted during the recent DDoS attacks between August 12-14 and each player will be credited with three tickets to play the freeroll of their choice.

The $100,000 prize pools are made up of WCOOP tickets, with 5,840 tickets being awarded in each tournament including a $5,200 Main Event ticket going to the eventual winner of each one.

The 2018 World Championship of Online Poker was announced earlier this month and will feature low and medium buy-ins for the first time. It takes place between September 2 and 17.
