PokerStars have announced another major step towards the marriage between poker and video games, with the launch of a Virtual Reality poker game to be released in the future.

PokerStars VR is a freeplay immersive social game which can be accessed using Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Steam. Players can handle chips and cards just like in live poker, as well as voice chat in real time, pick up tells and play with a host of interactive props like champagne, cigars and confetti guns.

Developed by Lucky VR the game also features voice command controls, integrated Twitch broadcasting, video streaming and social media integration.

“Poker is about interaction”

"Something totally unique for poker players"

There are a range of stylish environments from saloons, yachts and a Macau themed suite. Players can customise their characters as well as walk around the card room. There will be the functionality to stream sports or TV shows on virtual TVs while you are playing, as well as leaderboards and private games.

“PokerStars VR is a chance for us to take this amazing technology and bring something totally unique to poker players,” said Severin Rasset, Director of Poker Innovation and Operations at PokerStars. “Poker is about interaction. It’s been bringing people together for well over a century. We’re really excited to invest in the next generation of the game and to give players the opportunity to meet in a brand new virtual reality dimension.”

This writer was one of the first players to sample PokerStars VR last month at a special media event at EPT Barcelona. Stay tuned to PokerStrategy.com this weekend where I shall give you an insight into what you can expect (but, spoiler alert, it was fun).

Sounds funny and attractive for recreative players. Already tried Poker in VR and played in space , was funny even if the game was still poorly designed but that was couple years ago i've no doubts it's gonna be better. But playing real money in VR environment humm not such a good idea in my opinion...
