PokerStars to remove Unfold

Expect to see the game where you can buy back in leaving the PokerStars client later this month.

Unfold will be the third novelty format released by PokerStars this year to have a limited trial, as PokerStars confirmed to pokerfuse it would be removed this month.

It follows Split Hold'em and Showtime Hold'em as one of three twists on traditional No Limit Hold'em. Unfold plays like normal No Limit, but the players who fold preflop have the option to play a smaller side pot on the flop.

This comes as a slight surprise to the industry because the initial messages we were getting about Unfold was that this was going to be the first new format that would be a permanent fixture, rather than on a trial basis.

Speaking to pokerfuse, Director of Innovation and Operations Severin Rasset commented:

PokerStars is invested in creating and testing products and new variants of poker to suit a variety of player tastes. While not every new development will be a home run, we will keep trialling, listening to player feedback and analysing engagement with our goal of continuing to offer fresh promotions, formats and updates that enhance our players’ experience and bring more people to the game.

Unfold appears that it will be making way for either Six Plus Hold'em (otherwise known as Short Deck Poker, which is taking the High Roller scene by storm) or a format called Fusion, which nobody knows the rules of as yet.

they probably need some more popular variants like shortdeck, instead of creating all sorts of weird variants that people aren't gonna bother trying out.

i think recreational players will try any kind of variant as long they are not complicated or request to read plenty rules lol
Instead lot of regular players won't switch their games for any new format unless they get a bigger edge and ROI in the other format.
Additionally when you get to win in a format of game you unlikely going to switch to an other one atleast not very often i guess.

also i agree with with mbml , they always have to put new wierd variants in the name of modernity and maketing. that's a bit sick.

Didn't have the chance to try Unfold? How was it? I know the rules, I'd just like to know how bad were the recs there.

Why no obvious "PokerStars folds on Unfold" joke? :o
