Huck Seed – Who needs online poker?

High stakes pro and legendary prop-bettor Huck Seed appears to have come into a little luck lately. Seed's Tweet yesterday suggested that he had won a rather juicy jackpot ($670,665,60) on a video poker machine.

He sarcastically wrote next to the image he posted on Twitter, "Internet poker is down in the US, but I'm still pressing buttons!" His latest Tweets refer to the fact that he was already stuck $50,000 and it "was a ($)500 per hand machine".

He was generous with his tips too, stating "I tipped 1000 dollars". Not a bad day's work Huck…

Greece looks to fast-track regulation

EGR Magazine yesterday reported on the impending regulation of Greece's online gambling market, and claims Greek politicians may come to an agreement as soon as Thursday of this week "despite its existing proposals continuing to contravene EU laws".

Greece is facing one of the most severe financial struggles in European history and it seems the Greek Government is keen to raise "around €700m this year from the issue of 15-55 new licences to its parliament".

It will, however, be tough on operators to achieve profitable business models considering the Greeks want to implement a 30% Gross Profits Tax on all operators. This is a higher percentage than current regulated markets in France and Italy. 

EPT Tallinn

With the WSOP now a distant memory, it's business as usual for the European Poker Tour. We're now in the 8th season of the EPT and it hasn't even been three months since Ivan Freitez was crowned EPT Season 7 champion in Madrid.

The first stop on this season's tour is The Olympic Poker Club in Tallinn, Estonia. Yesterday's Day 1a saw a slightly disappointing 92 players stump up the €4,250 buy-in, but we can expect an increase for day 1b today.

The overnight chip leader is Russian Maksim Kolosov with 102,725 chips bagged and tagged. Notable players to make it through to day 2 include Roberto Romanello (83,175), Martin Jacobson (74,650) and PokerStrategists Stefan mindgamer85 Jedlicka (72,425) and Robin nibor23 Ylitalo (66,525). EPL release sponsorship rules

EGR today report that the Epic Poker League has banned players from advertising "illegal gaming products of any kind or real-money poker sites" whilst participating in the EPL.

The first EPL Main Event kicks off on August 9th and a number of EPL broadcasts are set to air on the CBS and Discovery Networks, as reported in a previous news bulletin. 

Poker After Dark returns

The long awaited new series of Poker After Dark returned to NBC last night. The show features a $100,000 buy-in cash game and included poker pros Peter Jetten, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, Brandon Adams, Chris Ferguson, Mike Matusow and Jean-Robert Bellande.

Galfond pleased to be in Canada

We reported last week of Phil "OMGClayAiken" Galfond's big move to Canada. The move has enabled Galfond to fire up the online tables again, and it seems to be working out rather well for him.

Pokerlistings report that it was a good weekend for Galfond on PokerStars. Playing under the alias "MrSweets28", he ran wild all over the high stakes PLO tables and clocked up a win to the tune of $256,000. His major benefactors were Viktor "Isildur1" Blom and Ben "Sauce123" Sulsky.

Since his move north of the border, Phil Galfond has won $231,000 on PokerStars. We can expect the games to get bigger as more US players are rumoured to be contemplating the move, including high stakes specialist Brian Hastings.
