The European Poker Tour has now outgrown its European borders and become the PokerStars Championship.

Starting in 2017, €/$5,000 EPT level events will also take place in other parts of the world, in festivals which last around 10 days with up to 100 side events.

It begins in the Bahamas in January when the PCA will become the PokerStars Championship Bahamas. Also confirmed so far in 2017 are stops in Monte Carlo, Macau and Panama.

There will be a Player of the Year race, the winner of which will get a VIP Package to the first PokerStars Championship event of the following year as well as an invite to a $100,000 winner-takes-all event.

PokerStars Festival

On top of that PokerStars have announced PokerStars Festival events, which will last around 6-7 days with buy-ins around $1,000-$1,500. These are designed to have more of a 'holiday' feel to them and the first events have been announced for New Jersey in October 2016 and London in January 2017.

To complement these new events a number of technical innovations are expected to accompany them, including improved online registration, a mobile app for each event and self service terminals for online registration.

Edgar Stuchly, PokerStars’ Director of Live Events, said:

We are always thinking of how to bring the best experience to players, through the variety of tournaments we sponsor, the ease of finding information, how we communicate to players and media, and the overall experience on and off the felt. The PokerStars Championship and PokerStars Festival events are an enhancement of the existing PokerStars sponsored live tours, helping to take our vision for live poker to a whole new level. The PokerStars Championship will include top-tier events that will visit the most exciting and prestigious destinations worldwide, similar to the much-loved European Poker Tour, while the PokerStars Festival events have a more regional feel, positioned as an action-packed poker vacation.
