A controversial Player of the Year race

The surprise story of the WSOP this year (and maybe the entire poker year) is disgraced former Full Tilt founder Chris Ferguson holding the lead in the Player of the Series race. Ferguson has cashed 17 times this year, which is the new record for number of cashes in a series, but in a year where David Bach won two bracelets it has called the scoring system into question. Were he to win, it would the first time a player did it in a year they didn't also win a bracelet.

Ferguson leads the race narrowly with 898.46 points and right behind him are Ryan Hughes with 876.35, John Monnette with 865.21 and John Racener with 853.16. However, a good run by any one of a large number of players could see Ferguson get overtaken.

The bigger question is perhaps whether Ferguson will be in attendance at all, given he has only really been spotted playing live in Las Vegas since the aftermath of the Full Tilt scandal.

Considering Ferguson won a WSOPE ME seat for leading WSOP POY in Vegas, he should at least be attending that event.
