WPT - Day 1 at the Gold Strike Casino

259 Players came to the Gold Strike Casino to play it the $10,000 World Poker Open Main Event. Chad Brown currently has the chip lead.

The number of participants in the Main Event of the Gold Strike World Poker Open decreased this year. Last year's negative trend continued, as there were 40 players less this time. The first edition in 2006 saw almost twice as many players as this year.

The professionals however didn't let their chance at a $2.5 million prizepool slip. Indeed, among other pros moving on to day 2 were Dutch Boyd, Erick Lindgren, T.J Cloutier, David Pham, Barry Greenstein, Vanessa Rousso and Mickey Mouse Mills.

Daniel Negreanu was however eliminated early. The Canadian already had some successes at this event. Of 16 WPT cashes, two were at the previous editions of this tournament. Indeed, he finished second last year, and third in 2006.

Jamie Gold is one of the casualties of the first day, and Phil Ivey didn't last long either. Other notables leaving on day 1 include Andy Black, Josh Arieh, Gavin Smith, David Ulliott, Todd Brunson, J. C. Tran and Bill Edler.
