byronjacobs is een Fixed Limit Heads-Up specialist die 14 maanden geleden lid is geworden bij PokerStrategy.com en daar nu al vier maanden lang coach is. Sinds die tijd heeft hij verscheidene coachingsessies gegeven en maar liefst 10 uitgebreide video's voor Platinum en Diamond leden gemaakt.<\/p>

\"byron\"We ontmoeten ByronJacobs om meer te weten te komen over zijn coachings, het verslaan van de limieten en hoe NL, full ring en shorthanded spelers profijt kunnen hebben van zijn materiaal. Het interview vind je hieronder:<\/p>

\"Admin\"PokerStrategy.com:<\/strong> Byron, je hebt nu al verschillende malen gecoached voor PokerStrategy.com in de afgelopen vier maanden. Hoe leer je je leerlingen hoe ze hun tegenstanders zo goed kunnen readen als jij doet?<\/p>

byronjacobs: Als ik aan het coachen ben dan leg ik altijd de focus op de basics van wat ik aan het doen ben in elke hand. Ik stel mezelf de volgende vragen: \"Wat is de range van mijn tegenstander?\", \"Wat zijn hun pot odds\", \"Zou een bluff\/semi-bluff hier winstgevend zijn?\".<\/p>

Maar het is ook belangrijk (vooral omdat ik vaak HU of ultra-short speel) om te denken aan eerdere handen: Wat deed deze speler eerder? Wat deed ik eerder dat hij heeft gezien en misschien heeft onthouden? Het is belangrijk om jezelf constant te confronteren met dit soort vragen en te kijken hoe ze je beslissingen beïnvloeden.<\/p>

De game flow is cruciaal als je heads-up of erg short speelt en ik probeer mijn gedachten op dit gebied altijd goed te verwoorden. Ik kijk ook nooit naar PTR en gebruik ook geen stats (ook al denken mijn luisteraars dat ik dat wel zou moeten doen), want het is veel effectiever om zelf je reads te maken, zonder afhankelijk te zijn van stats.<\/p>

\"Admin\"PokerStrategy.com: <\/strong>Hoe zouden full ring en shorthanded spelers profijt kunnen hebben van jouw coachings?<\/p>

byronjacobs: Ik hoop dat alle FL en SH spelers iets zouden kunnen leren van deze coachings. Zelfs als je al een goede speler bent is het leerzaam om andermans gedachtengang te horen. Soms vinden mijn luisteraars dat ik een slechte play maak en dan volgt er een goede discussie. I denk zelf dat mijn coachingsessies hier goed voor zijn, omdat ik actief nadenk over mijn plays en niet dogmatisch ben. Als iemand een andere mening heeft dan zal ik het altijd overwegen.<\/p>

\"Admin\"PokerStrategy.com: <\/strong>Kunnen NL spelers ook iets van jou leren?<\/p>

byronjacobs: Ik denk dat zelfs als FL niet jouw soort spel is dat het goed is om mee te luisteren, want het \"correct\" leren denken over poker (zoals over ranges, equity, game flow etc.) is op elke variant te vergelijken. Ik luister wel eens naar Omaha coachings, ookal speel ik de variant nooit - je kunt er altijd wat van leren.<\/p>

Bijvoorbeeld het concept \"bluffing outs\" is belangrijk in NL en Omaha.  In FL is dit niet zo belangrijk, maar omdat ik een paar Omaha video's heb bekeken, heb ik dit idee ook toe kunnen passen in FL. Ook pot control is een belangrijk concept in toernooien\/NL, maar je kunt het ook toepassen in een FL game.<\/p>

\"Admin\"PokerStrategy.com:<\/strong> In hoeverre denk je dat de volgende punten er voor zorgen dat ze FL spelers in de weg staan om op hogere stakes te kunnen spelen:
a)<\/strong> mass-tabling, b)<\/strong> slechte\/geen tafelselectie en c)<\/strong> niet genoeg theorie toepassen<\/p>

byronjacobs: Ok - ik beweer niet dat wat ik nu ga zeggen helemaal klopt, maar volgens mij werkt het als volgt:<\/p>

a)<\/strong> Multi-tabling is verschrikkelijk en ik heb er een hekel aan. Daarmee bedoel ik 6+ short tafels spelen en op de automatische piloot gaan. Misschien zijn er spelers die dit kunnen en alsnog op details kunnen letten, maar God mag weten hoe - voor mij is het onmogelijk. Ik speel drie tafels tegelijk en misschien vier als de spelers aan de tafels dezelfde zijn. Je hebt veel handen nodig om de variance te kunnen beaten, maar een \"rake slave\" zijn voor de pokersite is niet de juiste manier.<\/p>

b) <\/strong>Tafelselectie is de belangrijkste factor voor succes, vooral als je HU en short speelt. HU tegen een slechte speler kan als je goed speelt leiden tot 5BB of 6BB\/100.<\/p>

Op een 4-handed tafel waar de andere drie spelers allemaal redelijk spelen maar niet geweldig, is misschien maar 0.5BB\/100 of 1BB\/100. De edge is dan dus klein en de variance groot. Als ik coachings geef dan maak ik geen gebruik van tafelselectie, maar dat is geen goed voorbeeld om te volgen.<\/p>

c)<\/strong> Studeren is ERG belangrijk. Als je ervoor kiest om 10 uur per week aan poker te besteden, dan zou ik zeggen dat 2 tot 3 daarvan aan studeren besteed zou moeten zijn. Als je alleen maar speelt denk ik niet dat je veel beter wordt. Er was een moment dat ik 18 maanden lang niet studeerde (geen forums, geen readings, niets) - mijn spel werd zelfs slechter. Je MOET studeren.<\/p>
