Deze week heeft Caesars Entertainment het officiële schema van de 2014 World Series of Poker bekend gemaakt. Op dinsdag 27 mei gaat het eerste bracelet event van start in het Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Er zijn in totaal 65 events, dat zijn drie bracelets meer dan in 2013. <\/p>

Na feedback van heel wat spelers heeft de organisatie besloten om de registratieperiode langer open te houden en de events langer te laten duren op Dag 1. <\/p>

Het $10.000 buy-in Main Event start op 5 juli en zal dit jaar drie startdagen hebben. Voor het eerst is er ook een gegarandeerde hoofdprijs van $10 miljoen. Vorig jaar ging Ryan Riess met $8,3 miljoen aan de haal voor zijn overwinning. Er komt wel heel wat kritiek op deze gegarandeerde eerste prijs, omdat de organisatie de prijzenpot niet zal aanvullen; bij gebrek aan voldoende spelers zullen alle cashes dus lager liggen om zo de hoofdprijs te verhogen. Net als vorig jaar zal de finaletafel op 11 en 12 november plaatsvinden en live worden uitgezonden op ESPN. <\/p>

Ook dit jaar is er weer een $1.500 buy-in Millionaire Maker toernooi waarbij de winnaar met minstens $1 miljoen naar huis zal gaan. Ook de Big One for One Drop zal dit jaar opnieuw plaatsvinden: in het toernooi met een buy-in van $1 miljoen zullen dit jaar 56 spelers mogen meespelen. Dat zijn acht spelers meer dan in 2012, waardoor de hoofdprijs hoogstwaarschijnlijk rond de $20 miljoen zal liggen. Ook de $10.000 buy-in Championship events zijn terug van weggeweest, na heel wat klachten van de spelers staan deze twaalf toernooien terug op het programma. <\/p>

WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart is in ieder geval erg tevreden met dit schema: \"For ten years we have tried to raise the bar on tournament poker. There is real optimism 2014 can be our biggest year yet with an anticipated $200 million in prize money to be paid out this summer.\" <\/em><\/p>

Tijdens de high roller toernooien van de Aussie Millions kwam er een discussie tot stand tussen Daniel Negreanu en Dan Shak. <\/p>

Negreanu betaalde maar liefst vijf keer de $100.000<\/a> buy-in en drie keer die van $250.000<\/a> in deze twee toernooien. Shak, die dit jaar niet in Australië was, reageerde op de rebuys van Negreanu en de andere spelers met volgende tweet: \"Never thought I would say this but what is going on right now is a complete embarrassment to the game and what it means to the value of $\". <\/em>Volgens Shak bekijkt Negreanu deze buy-ins als monopoly-geld terwijl het voor iedereen een enorm bedrag is. Negreanu was het natuurlijk niet eens met Shak en reageerde dat het volgens hem \"all business\"<\/em> was.<\/p>

Hoewel Shak regelmatig in de super high roller toernooien speelt, is hij geen fan van het ongelimiteerde rebuy format in deze events. Volgens hem geeft dit sommige spelers een oneerlijk voordeel. Shak gelooft ook dat deze turbo toernooien met gigantische buy-ins niet zullen helpen om de Amerikaanse overheid te overtuigen om poker te bekijken als een vaardigheidsspel. <\/p>

Ondanks zijn investeringen ging Negreanu wel naar huis met $550.000 winst. Shak had echter meer respect voor Phil Ivey die het toernooi wist te winnen<\/a> door maar één buy-in te gebruiken.<\/p>
